I have traced my greatgrandmother Ginnet Towns to Dougherty County, Albany Georgia. She is the mother of Fannie Tharpe my grandmother on the 1880 Census and probably a slave. She is listed as coming from VA. The trails goes cold there, but in 1860 there is an overseer named Frank Tharpe on the Towns Plantation. I got Fannie's death certificate and Frank Tharpe is listed as her father...HELP!! Where do I go from there? Are there plantation records of Towns Plantation? A slave record? Fannie went to Americus Georgia in Sumter County and married Gus McCullough. I found his dad (Augustus McCollough) on the 1870 census for Sumter. This means he was probably a slave in Sumter County also. Are there slave records for this area? Plantation listings and records? I don't know where to go from here, I can't believe I got this far !! Theressa

Hi. I know your post has been up for a very long time, and you had one reply that was never read, so you may never read this but........I am a direct descendant of John Randolph Towns, the owner of Towns Plantation. I may be able to answer some of your questions. You may be able to answer some of mine. Let me know if I can help.

Wow, I can't believe you read this. As stated, my grandmother listed her father as Frank Tharpe, the overseer on the Towns Plantation. Can you contact me at
