Burell L. Story b. 1792 CT Died 1858 NY

I am hoping to find some real history and genealogy sleuths as I'm having no real luck in locating my ancestor Burell L. Story's father. He was born about 1792 in Connecticut. There were many descendants of the famous Samuel Story living in Connecticut at that time. But, I've not been able to make a positive link to Burell L. Story. He moved to Cherry Valley Otsego, NY and became a hatmaker. He married Laura Hamilton, daughter of Rev War soldier Daniel Hamilton, and they lived in Schuyler Lake NYS where Laura and he are buried in the Old Schulyer Lake Cemetery. Any help anyone can provide would be GREATLY appreciated. Someone suggested the Brewster's Neck Cemetery, but I don't live in New England, and am not able to scour it. Thanks!

> I think any John Chappell just to maybe find that he might
> be related and I could get started searching in the 1600s

That isn't really practical. Families in the 1600s often had 8-12 children or more. If you start with any particular John Chappell in the 1600s (two, apparently unrelated, were noted in my previous message), you would have to investigate each of his sons (4-6 or more), and each of their sons, and each of their sons, and so on. The research quickly gets out of hand. You might have to investigate perhaps thousands of families with no assurance that any of them are your ancestors.

This is practical only for someone writing a complete genealogy of, say, the first five generations descended from a particular immigrant. If you are investigationg your own ancestry the only way to do it is to work backwards, generation by generation, from the known to the hitherto unknown.

Dale H.
Simeon Rogers- President George Washington connection

Hi,

I'm looking for a possible connection between my 5th great-grandfather Simeon Rogers and George Washington. According to the history of Henniker, NH, Simeon is Washington's second cousin, though I have not seen very much on that. Interestingly, Simeon shares the same birthday as GW. Their great-grandfather would be my 8th great-grandfather, Robert Rogers, b. 11 Jan 1617 in England and died in Newbury, MA on 23 Dec 1663. Googling these things hasn't really helped much, but my dad (he's not the one with the connection, it's my mother's side) said he's googled second cousins Simeon Rogers and GW and had some success, but I still need more proof. Any suggestions? Thank you

PS: I guess I could call this a look-up, as well. Here is what the history of Henniker, NH says on page 717 (758 on pdf):

Robert Rogers, md. Susanna _____, and was at Newbury, Mass., in 1651. Of his descendants, Simeon2 was b. in Newbury. He md. Anna Turner, of that town, and came here [to Henniker, my words]in 1780; he settled in the south-east part of the town, near the river in a northerly direction from the present residence of J.W. Dodge and son. He was second cousin of George Washington, and was b. the same day, -Feb 22, 1732. Children born in Newburyport. The family has been in town almost continually since 1780. He d. Nov. 4, 1811.

3. Robert, b. 1769; moved to Littleton.
* (my addition)4. Obadiah, b. 1771. +  5. Abigail
6. Nancy, md. James Chase, Sep. 15, 1808

The Marshall (MI) Evening Chronicle of Oct 24, 1921, front page, mentions the burial place to be, "in the family plot in the cemetery in Pontiac".

The following links to pages in the Providence (RI) News show his brief death notices and his splashy funeral notice but don't name the cemetery.

Death notice: Providence News, Oct 25, 1921; page 4
http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=Dnd9Dw9jpwAC&dat=1...

Death notice: Providence News, Oct 27, 1921; page 4
http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=Dnd9Dw9jpwAC&dat=1...

Funeral notice: Providence News Oct 29, 1921; page 4
http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=Dnd9Dw9jpwAC&dat=1...

I think All Saints Cemetery in Warwick, RI would be the logical place to look. In a 1923 Providence News item about donations of windows to the All Saints Episcopal Church in Warwick, Adelbert Harrington's wife Dorothea and a Mrs Eva Conn Jones are named as donors. In Find-A-Grave you will find Mrs Eva Conn Jones in All Saints Cemetery.

Hello,

Sometimes you can find tidbits of information by searching on-line for the full name of the person, for example, "Anna Rathbone Parker," - always putting name in quotes. When I did that I found her .death notice. in a NY newspaper:

BARRETT—At White Plains, N. Y., Febr
u a r y 17, 19.14, Anna Rathbone Parker,
wife of Henry R. Barrett. Funeral service
Thursday, February 19, a t 2 p. m.
at No. 24 Greenridge ave.. White Plains.
N. Y. Please omit flowers. Interment at
convenience of family.

.. I've looked for more information and am not yet successful. But, I searched on-line for the name, "Benajah PARKER," and someone has an on-line family-tree for one, b1828.

That's all I can offer this morning.

Betty (near Lowell, MA)

Board Administrator

(on Lists and Boards for 11 yrs.; now an Admin for 10 Lists and 5 Boards)

I am looking for information on Anna Rathbone Parker, daughter of Benajah and Deborah, married to Henry Robertson Barrett of New York and mother of five (one of whom was my grandmother) before dying way too young in the early 1900s. I have no info on her family at all. Does this ring bells for anyone?

Here she is on the 1920 Census - just the index, I use www.familysearch.org. If you want to look at actual census, you'ld have to post another message to see if someone with an Ancestry subscription could give you more info from it.

name: Lena Isabel
residence: Fall River City Precinct B, Bristol, Massachusetts
estimated birth year: 1908
age: 12
birthplace: Massachusetts
relationship to head of household: Daughter
gender: Female
race:White
marital status: Single
father's birthplace:
mother's birthplace:
film number: 1820683
digital folder number: 4301079
image number: 00544
sheet number: 17
HouseholdGenderAgeBirthplace
self Henry Isabel M 57y Canada
wife Annie Isabel F 47y Canada
dau Lena Isabel F 12y Massachusetts
son Wilfred Isabel M 9y Massachusetts
dau Laura Isabel F 5y Massachusetts

The trouble with your mother's info, for marriages and her son's births - you would have to go to Mass Archives. Records online only go to the year 1915. There are records for 1915-1920, but they are only browseable, can't search, but if your mother was born in 1907 - say she got married at the earliest at the age of 17 that would be 1924. You could go to the Archives, they have the BMD index on microfilm to the year 1970. You would get the volume and page number or certificate number and then go right down the street to Mass Vitals and see actual record. They charge $9 an hour for research, first time 20 mins free. That's why I go to Archives first, saves a little time.

Margaret
Thanks!

I did find out she was buried in the Nathan Hale Cemetery, dates of her death etc.

I did not have Arthur's obit. Thanks!

There are also a few more pieces in the obit that clears some things up.

Thanks again!

You probably found this by now but in case you haven't, there is a good chance she is in the Nathan Hale Cemetery of South Coventry. Her husband's 1959 obit shows that is where he was interred (see the attached).

I am not related.
