Surnames: LaGrange, Vanarsdall, Vandivier
I am researching the Aaron LaGrange family. Aaron was born around 1770 in New Jersey, probably in Somerset County. In 1794, Aaron married Anne Vanarsdall in Mercer County, KY. Anne was the daughter of Revolutionary War veteran, Christopher Vanarsdall (proved by Christopher’s will).

I’ve followed Aaron from Mercer County, KY; to Nelson County, KY; then to Gibson County, IN. I now have more Dutch Colony families who made some of these moves as well. Aaron LaGrange bought land in Nelson County in 1805. I also have Peter Vandivier (and wife Anna LaGrange) buying land there in 1808. A Christopher Vanarsdall bought land there in 1809 (and probably earlier since a ”Christopher Vanausvallen” showed up on the 1805 tax list). A “Corl Vanarsdale” is on the 1810 census in Nelson County. The Corl Vanarsdale family appears to be a couple between the ages of 26 – 44 along with one female child, aged 10 – 15. Peter Vandivier’s there too, although Ancestry has him indexed as “Peter Vanelverd”. Christopher Vanarsdall sold land to Peter Vandivier in 1812.

Aaron LaGrange was in Indiana by 1817 and Christopher Vanarsdall lived near Aaron in Gibson County, IN, according to the 1820 census. Peter Vandivier was back in Mercer County, KY by the 1820 census.

Aaron LaGrange’s parents have not been proven, but I think that Anna (LaGrange) Vandivier was his sister. Anna and Peter Vandivier’s daughter, Cynthia, married Cornelius Vanarsdall in 1804. Cornelius had previously been married to Mary Vanderipe in 1797 where a Christopher Vanarsdall had provided the bond. (All in Mercer County, KY.)

I'm sharing this hoping it will help someone else. Also, I'm hoping someone can help me untangle this LaGrange/Vanarsdall/Vandivier puzzle!
