I have her placed in the family tree but I am very concerned about her being there without any hard facts. The only living relatives are in their late 70s and 80s and know nothing about her. The only person who has any recollection of her name has dimentia problems, which doesn't help!

Dennis was a very interesting lead but they had one daughter Margaret. I cannot imagine that Bridget would have died in 1908 and her daughter never mentioned in her obituary!

unless margaret died first and whoever did the obit saw no more need to list the name of a dead daughter than list the name of a dead spouse. there was a reason she went back to ireland, and a reason she went when she did, and a reason she stayed. wish i could find dennis obit!
meanwhile. you prob realize, that while half of genealogy is proving something, the other half is eliminating possibilities.

Aurina, I appreciate your input.
To keep it simple, my opinion is that Bridget McSorley left Omagh (where I live) during the famine years. I have several possible ship listings for her. On more than one of these listings she travelled with a Mary McSorley - possibly her niece.

While in America she married a gentleman with the surname Rabbitt. When he died, she returned to Ireland around 1893. When she returned she lived in a house belonging to her nephew Patrick McSorley and this is where she died in 1908.

The census record reads as follows:

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Tyrone/Omag...

When she was buried, she was not buried in the McSorley family plot but directly opposite. I suspect, it broke with the McSorley family name as she was pre-deceased by other relatives.
Her headstone is inscribed in the same lettering as the McSorley headstone

I really don't imagine she had family, though I wouldn't rule it out if I found a definite marriage cert.
