Wiliam Harmand Samler is my 3rd great grandfather and I believe he may have gone to America after splitting from his wife, my g.g.g.grandmother Catherine Eleanor Andrews. I cannot find him on any British census, like wise any death details. On his daughters marriage lines of 1861 he is down as deceased.
On the 1861 census his wife is down as married/separated.
He could have died between these two events but I have found
details of a William H. Samler in the U.S. Civil War dated 1/7/1863 aged 44. This would make his birthdate 1819. This doesn't seem to be too far out to be him. He was born in England and was a Morocco Dresser.I'm not sure exactly what this is but it sounds as if leather is part of the process
and my ancestor was a Leather Dresser in England.
I've also found details of a William Samler born about 1821
who left from London for America in 1848. His occupation Leather Dresser. As far as I am aware his last child was born in 1846 so the dates do not conflict. If anyone knows anything or can tell me where else I can look I would be so grateful.
Thank You.
