Hello all:
Thanks to family members visiting Dublin, Ireland, we now know that Sarah Jane Griffith was the d/o Richard John Griffith and Maria Jane Waldie born ca 1813. Sir Richard John Griffith was later the evaluator of Ireland. The legend is that Jane, bored with boarding school, eloped with an estate gardener, Robert Cooke. The family estate was at Millicent, Kildare not Kilkenny as previously thought.
Jane was promptly disowned and expunged from the family circle forever.
Robert Cooke and S Jane Griffith fled to Brockville, Ontario Canada where 5 children were born and baptized, St Peter's Anglican Church. About 1838 Robert died leaving Jane destitute, and ignored by her family still in Ireland, Jane had little choice but to farm her children out to Robert's relatives living in the area and she left Brockville with an American man, married him, and had a second family with him somewhere unknown to me in the USA.
The second family surname is also unknown.
One of her second marriage progeny did meet his half brothers in Leeds, Lansdowne, Ontario and did do some research in Ireland to no avail.
Jane was my Gx2 grandmother. Somewhere in the USA we have cousins we do not know! It would be fun to find them.
I invite anybody who shares this famous Griffith family as ancestors to get in touch!
