Samuel was born in Ayr, Scotland in 1865. He and his wife Catherine Menzies Nicol had seventeen children. She came to this country with one daughter, Mary.

Sons born to Samuel and Catherine were Samuel, Arthur, Thomas, Robert, Matthew, Brice and William, all of whom lived to be adults. Other children I am aware of are Clarence and Menzies who were twins and died during the influenza epidemic at the turn of the 20th century in New York City, probably the Bronx.

Samuel's father was John Hair who was most probably born in Ireland. Samuel's wife was Margaret Miller who was born in England. I have been unable to trace John's birth because there are so many males named John Hair.

This is not the Samuel, Margaret or John who ended up in Utah. My Hair family lived in New York City only.

I am also trying to ascertain how Samuel got into the country and when. I can find no records of him arriving, but know he died in the Bronx in 1907.

Mary Robertson was the sister of Catherine Nicols and arrived on the same ship, state of Indiana, as did Catherine. Jane Watt is related to Catherine and Mary Nicol.
