Hi, my name is Omar Diaz de Leon and I live in Sugar Land Texas. Ican give you a liitle of information on our last name.
The Diaz de Leon family established itself in Mexico in the early 1600's coming from Spain to settle in the new conquered lands. They came through Cuba and entered Mexico through Veracruz and finally establishing in a small town of Zacatecas called "La Monteza". It is here in this town where the family split into two major flows. One family going to San Luis Potosi and the other family going to Zacatecas. I'm from the family that went to Zacatecas into a place called "Boquillas". There is an old man in the town of La Monteza, his name is Jose Diaz de Leon nickname "Chepito". He is probably the most literate person that knows about the history of the family. Actually, I know the history myself because I've met him last year. He has the family tree since the first Diaz de Leon's that came into Mexico in the 1600's. I represent the 8th generation from that tree. I was impressed with the level of accuracy this man created the family tree. I found my grandfather's name in there. his name was Elias Diaz de Leon Soto and wife Josefina Montanez.

I'm sending you the images of the family tree. You need to zoom in and look for your family branch. Unfortunately the quality of the images is not very good but you can still read the names. I am going back to the Monteza and get better shots this year.
Where does your dad's family come from? Zacatecas, San Luis Potosi or Aguascalientes? These are the 3 routes the families took in the past. My family is from the Zacatecas branch.

Where are you located? I'm in Sugar Land, TX.

Good to know more about our lastname...Also, to let you know...I really don't remember where I readed, but a Diaz De Leon was the one who brought the first printing machine to Mexico and also another Diaz De Leon (Enrique) was the first UDG (Universidad de Guadalajara)Dean, there is also an important street in Guadalajara named after him.

Yo tambien estuve en Mexico estas vacaciones. Mi papa me llevo al lugar donde nacieron mis abuelos. Se llama Boquillas, Zacatecas. Esta cerca de El Chepinque, solo hay un cerro que los divide. Es un lugar muy bonito y de mucha historia.
Me da gusto que tu tio tambien este trabajando en el arbol genealogico. Le sugiero que se contacte con Chepito de La Monteza para que comparen datos y no haya confusion o equivocacion de fechas y nombres.

My name is Pedro A. Diaz de Leon, and I currently reside in Chicago. My parents moved from the town of San Ciro de Acosta in the state of San Luis Potosi to the U.S. in 1970. My father, grandfather, and a cousin are named Pedro Diaz de Leon, and my great grandfather was named Abran Diaz de Leon. From the postings on this site, I believe I am from the San Luis Potosi branch. The family tree looks great, but I had trouble reading it, so I could not locate the SLP branch on there.

I am going to be flying into Guadalajara this year from December 20, 2007 to January 3, 2008, and I was hoping someone here could help me in meeting Chepito in La Monteza. My mother is from Zacatecas, so I will be in the area. I could not find La Monteza on any maps online. Does it go by another name, or could someone help me in learning how to get there?

My father has lots of old family photos, all of which have been scanned. The oldest one is of my grandmother, whose maiden name was also Diaz de Leon, and it was taken in 1907 when she was 20. It is included below. I also have many other photos with my father in them, who was born in 1937. If anyone could help me locate La Monteza to meet Chepito, or provide a more detailed picture of the family tree, that would be great. Regards,

Several months later :), we have no idea which group we are from. I can tell you my grandfather's first name is Aldolfo, born in Hot Water, my lack of spanish. My Dad was born in El Paso and we now live in California. Should we or can we request for my grandfather's birth certificate? My Dad does not know what his grandfather's name was. Hello my grandfathers was Ramon Diaz De Leon. I just found out that he is from Zacatecas. I'm wondering if there is a connection here. My aunt told me that my grandfather had a brother who had 26 children.

I just registered in ancestry.com and had started creating a small tree of the family. I was roaming today and just found your post regarding the origin of the "Diaz de Leon" last name dated from May 2005.

I'm interested on knowing whatever I can, as unfortunately my father had problems with my grandfather a long time ago, and that distance caused that I almost know nothing about the "Diaz de Leon" family.

I am Carlos Diaz de Leon Camara (born in Merida, Mexico while my father was serving there), my father is Carlos Diaz de Leon Lopez (born in Mexico City, Mexico, Captain Pilot of the Mexican Air Forces) and my grandfather was Cuauhtemoc Diaz de Leon Macias (born in Mexico City?, seems to have been a high-ranking free mason).

I don't know if I might be a close relative to any of the persons that are participating on this thread, but I would surely enjoy discovering many things from our ancestors...

I live in Danville, California. My Mom's family is from Culiacan Sonaloa. My grandmother, Esther Verdugo Diaz de Leon married my grandfather Jose Diaz de Leon in Sinaloa. I was told by my mother (Blanca Esthela Diaz de Leon Verdugo) that her grandmother moved to San Francisco and died there many years(during the 1800's). My gran-father had a brother that moved to USA while he decided to stay in Sinaloa and be with mi grand-mother.

Hi Sergio! Every year I get a reply from un Diaz de Leon family member. I am so excited to know that we are many! I will ask my mom if she knows you your great grand father or grandpa. Bueno, yo no se mucho, lo que se son los nombres, de mis bisabuelos "Gabriel Diaz de Leon" Jovita Contreras" y mi Abuelo "Guadalupe Diaz de Leon", pero preguntare a mi papa mas sobre ellos, en el verano tenemos planeado un viaje a Mexico, y esta en mis planes visitar la Monteza y el Chepinque, para aberiguar mas y buscar algunas fotos, por que, mi esposa y yo, queremos hacer un album para mi hija, y para que sepa todo de la familia Diaz de Leon y que no se olvide y sepa de donde venimos, Mi abuelo Guandalupe Diaz de Leon, se caso con Mercedes Castillo, y tuvieron 16 hijos, entre esos mi papa, y tengo muchos primos hermanos que no conosco, la familia de mi abuelo es muy grande somos muchos Diaz de Leon en Las Colonias, donde vivo muy abuelo.

Hola! Si hablo espanol, yo vivo en Denver COO en los Estados Unidos. Yo fui a La Monteza el ano pasado. Me senti muy emocionada porque tuve la oportunidad de llevar a mis hijas y hijo al lugar de donde vienen nuestros antecedentes. Tambien fuimos al Chepinque y fuimos a la casa en donde nacio mi visabuelo. Esa casa tiene mas de 200 anos. Aorita vive mi tio Beto en ella. Cuando vayas le dices que le manda saludar "La Caminitos", la grandota de Jesus Palacios. Ojala que te diviertas como nosotros!
