My Grandfather....

...was born in Ciudad Mier, Tamaulipas...he married Maria del Jesus Sanchez in Laredo Texas and lived there most of his life. That is where my father and I were born and raised. Unfortunately, that side of the family was not too keen on keeping track of family, and now that I am interested in doing some genealogy research there is no one to ask, The only thing I remember is that my grandfather used to say if a Barrera was from Ciudad Mier, we were related. My grandfather's parents were Paulino Barrera and Ma. del Refugio Flores. My grandfather's siblings: Lucas, Luis (died young), Lucia, Rafaela, Jullia...all lived in Laredo, Texas. All deceased now....present family I know, I'd like to go back further. Unfortunately I am new to computers and the internet and don't know how to properly search for things...I am blindly stumbling...would appreciate any help, tips, information.....Thanks.

Hi, I am mtenerias' sister and I was just reading your letter. Our grandfather, Pedro Barrera Vela, was one of 18 children born to Antonio Barrera Barrera and Genoveva Vela Ayala. We know the names of only 15. Your Paulino may be one of the 3 missing brothers. Grandfather Pedro was born in 1871 in Mier...when was Paulino born? He traveled to Laredo and even had a store there, as did his brother, Anastacio Barrera Vela. Anastacio was killed in the Mexican revolution.

Please give us a little bit more info, like dates ...years born and died....whatever you have.

We will help with what we have.

Thanks.

Hi, My name is Laura Gerena Osorio and I saw your posting and was hoping you or any one out there with any info on
Barrera's in Salinas(outskirts or Monterey)Mexico.I recently
found out that my Grandfather was Tomas Barrera and his mothers name (we think) is Rosalia. He died in 1963 or 64 of a
heart attack. He came from Mexico under a fake name of
Eluterio Moreno maybe in the 1930 or 40's.My Grandma says
that he left Mexico and never looked back. She met him here
in Chicago. They married and had 5 children. All these years we thought we were Moreno's now to find that it actually
should be Barrera.I would like to try and find family and don't
know how to start.I found out that my gradma has his birth
certificate now the task is getting her to find it and send me a copy.I know I would find out his parents anme and town from
that and that I guess would be my start.Any info would be
greatly appreicated. Laura olaura@attbi.com
