Hi Dwain,
Where is the link to the census? I have followed my family's surname to that town and would like to see if they were some of the initial families and where they came from to settle there. The surname is Mascorro.

Thank you,
Gabriella Sagnes

Hi Gabriella,

Unfortunetly, I don't see anyone with the Mascorro or surname or any surname close to it. I do not know of a website that has the census information. I have a book which I was referencing. The book is" "Fundadores de Tamaulipas 1748 - 1770, Tomo I" by Guillermo Garmendia. The book is a collection of first census for the following towns"
Aguayo (cd. Victoria) - Censo 3 Oct 1750
Burgos - Censo 5 Jul 1750
Carmargo - Censo 31 May 1750
Cruillas - Censo - 10 May 1766
Laredo - Censo 23 Jul 1757
Mier - Censo 1 Mar 1753
Revilla (Guerrero) - Censo 25 Jan 1753
Reynosa - Censo 16 Jun 1750
San Fernando - Censo 15 Jul 1750
Santander (Jimenez) - Censo 3 Sep 1750
Soto La Marino - Censo 27 Aug 1750

These early census are pretty good in that, depending on the town, they will list spouse, their mother and father, age, number of children, where the family is orignally from and if they are a founder of that town. Each census varies a little bit on what information it contains.

Thanks, Dwain

Refugio, I got the information from the book "Fundadores de Tamaulipas 1748-1770, Tomo I" by Guillermo Garmendia. After seeing your post, I saw that there is another book that may be of interest to your research. The book is "Saldivar of Santander Jimenez" by Hilda Saldivar de Shepard. The book seller that had the listing indicated that it was privetly printed and out of stock but to contact him to check future availability. I can give you the name of the book seller if you would like to pursue it further. In the description of the book, it indicates that there was three Saldivar families which were part of the founding of Santander Jiminez.

Don Damaso Zaldivar and his wife Antonia Damiana de Leon from Guaxuco
Don Jose Zaldivar and his wife Josepha de Leon from El Valle de Pilon
Don Pedro Zaldivar and his wife Maria Luisa Serna from El Valle de Salinas

The description of the book says it includes generational charts for the Don Pedro Zaldivar family which includes the following surnames. Alcalo, Cabalero, Galvan, Garcia, Garza, Gonzales Guajardo, Hinojosa, Leal, Rodriquez, Rosa, Teran and Ximenez.

Thanks, Dwain

Dwain,
Gracias for your response. A couple of days ago, I received in the mail that book I ordered entitled "Saldivar of Santander Jimenez." I was able to extend the Saldivar branch of my family tree about five or six generations back to Pedro Zaldivar and Maria Luisa Serna in the 1700s. So far, I have gone back to the 1500s along the branches of the Fernandez and Salinas lineages of the tree. Thanks again for staying in touch.

Hi everyone! Surname on grandma's side: Caballero, Saldivar. Grandma (Delfina) was born in Jimenez Tamaulipas and had the following siblings: Amado, Amelia & Juventina (their parents: Amado Caballero & Francisca Saldivar). Surnames on grandpa: Montalvo, Zardeneta. Grandpa (Arnulfo) was born somewhere in that area also and I only have his mothers name: Dolores Zardeneta. I am actively searching within my relatives for info that might shed light on my lineage and will gladly share this info w/you.
I am interested in purchasing all the books mentioned in this thread...would it be possible to obtain the nec info to do so?
Thank you so much!
Lauren
