(Originaly posted July 22,1998)
I would like to correspond with anyone who has knowledge of, or has an interest in the 'Old Chamal, Blalock Mexico Colony'. This was a corporation chartered under the laws of the Territory of Oklahoma, with the Mexican government, to carry on a number of business enterprises in Mexico. My maternal grandparents were members of two of the many families who helped to establish the colony in Chamal, Tamaulipas, in 1904.
My maternal great grandfathers, James Howard SHAFER and William Evett FRASIER, were both land and business owners in Chamal. James Edward SHAFER, son of James Howard SHAFER, married Robbie Ann FRASIER, daughter of William Evett FRASIER, on 11 Oct 1908, in Ocampo, Tamps. Their (my grandparents) first four children were born in Chamal. Most all of the Chamal colony families were forced out of Mexico during the Mexican Revolution. The FRASIER and SHAFER families left Chamal sometime during the year 1916, settling in different locations in Texas.
My great grandfather, William E. FRASIER, returned to Chamal in 1921, with the hopes of rebuilding his farm and business there. He died and was buried in the colony's cemetery, at Chamal, on 9 Oct 1921.
If anyone has information regarding this colony and it's members, I would appreciate hearing from you. I do not have a great deal of information at present; but, will be happy to share what I do have. Please contact me.
