I'm looking for information on my grandmother's family. Her name was Matilde Perez dob1861 in Sonora. She married Santiago Cañez. Her father's surname was Romero her mother's name was Marcelina Perez. My mother, Maria Petra Cañez was born 1889 in San Miguel de Orcasitas. My uncles worked the mines in Sonora and Tucson, Arizona in the late 1800's. Their names were Santiago, Antonio, Jose Maria, and Francisco. Besides my mother there were two other daughters, Eloisa and Rosario.

Hi Lupe: I have a Francisco Canez (Canez-Garcia) that married Concepción Reyna-Bejarano (b about 1865). They have three children: Epigmenio, Cristin and Maria de Jesus. This was the second marriage for Concepción. She was previously married to Jose Bejarano-Valenzuela and had with him 5 children. They lived in Sonora in the area of Trincheras, Altar, Santa Ana, etc. Do you have more information on Santiago Canez (mother's last name, for example?).

My family is from the Altar area. Alfonso Ochoa is found in Sonora in 1688. My grandmother is Refugio Cano born Ures. I have done extensive work in the area. It is my belief Canez comes from the Cano line. The Cano's came to the area abt 1790 from Durango. The line descends from Francisco Cano de los Rios from Extremedura, Spain born about 1590. If you would like more info, contact me. I assume you have researched the LDS films. I have three other films obtained through the Arizona Hist. Society in Tucson.

My g-grandfather's sister, Ma. Luisa de los Dolores Escalante Bustamante, married Antonio Canez. They had two sons, Antonio and Jose Luis Canez. They all lived and died in Altar, Sonora and made their living running a cattle ranch with my G-grandfather Tomas Escalante. The name of the ranch was Santa Rosalia and was sold around 1960. Is there any connection there with your Canez's?

Dear Bob, Could you possibly have any connection to Carmen Araiza married to Ricardo Searcy from Altar?
|
Debbie, So far the only Carmen Araiza I have was married to Manuel Contreras. They were both from Altar. Please give me more information if you can i.e., mother, father, children, etc, and I will look further. I can ask my relatives in Altar for more information if I know what time frame I am looking for. Thanks Bob Lopez

Hello Bob, Thank you for your message. I am not directly related to Carmen Araiza to my knowledge. Researching Carmen Araiza and Ricardo Searcy is my "detective" work trying to find out more about Ignacia Murrieta, my Gr. Grandmother. She is virtually unknown to us. All of her descendants want to know more about her. Carmen and Ricardo are my grandfather's Godparents according to the record from Alamos, Sonora dated December 7, 1881. This was the first time these names had been mentioned. I therefore began researching Carmen and Ricardo in the hopes of possibly finding a link between them and my Gr. Grandmother as they might have been friends or family members of hers (also a clue as to the possible origin of Ignacia). Why would Ignacia Murrieta and her husband, Ventura Tena, choose this couple as Godparents for their son (my grandfather). I was fortunate to have received their wedding record. If you are interested in it, I will send it to you. Carmen Araiza and Ricardo Searcy were married October 17, 186..? in Sari/Altar. Difficult to read the record.
