Jose Maria Torres, my great-great-grandfather, born in Sinaloa, was the Prefecto del Distrito de Moctezuma (Sonora)& was assassinated July 7, 1886 on the road from Lampazoa to the Villa de Moctezuma under the orders of Jose Guadalupe Velarde. (Don't worry descendants, I'm not looking for revenge!!) His wife was Jesus OSORIO & she had died after giving birth to my great-grandfather in 1881/1882, also named Jose Maria Torres.
Other Sinaloans who were prominent in Sonoran governament were: Felizardo, Lorenzo & Luis Emeterio Torres, all Govenors of Sonora. I'm trying to link them to my family, or link my family to ANY of the Torres' in Sinaloa. Felardo was from El fuerte, Lorenzo from Mochicahui. Lorenzo is a very prominent name in my family.
My great-grandfather, Jose Maria Torres, was born 1881 in Sonora & raised by his oldest sister Modesta Torres. She later married Ramon Aragon. Jose married Manuela Feran in 2/1901 & she died 12/1901 giving birth to another Jose Maria Torres. He married Ampara Ruiz in the 1920's. Jose Sr., left Mexico for the USA sometime after that, partly for "political" reasons. He married 2nd in 1907 to Inez Merceda Walker in Kansas & had 4 more children. Jose died 1952 & "Cede" in 1957, both in San Diego, CA.
Any help w/ this TORRES family appreciated!! Cindy
