I have a file with info on 3,600 people going back to 1600s from Chiautla. However, it is in a format that I can't send over the email. The information only has to do with you depending on who your ancestors were.

Send me who your ancestors were, names, birth/marriage dates/locations back to the 1870s as best as you can and I will tell you if I have any information that has to do with them.

Best,

Dan

Surnames: Benitez Rios Ruiz Tlatenchi Cardoso
I was born in Atlixco, Puebla but my mom and dad were both born in a small rancheria outside of Chiautla called El Cascalote de Bravo. I still have relatives there. My mom's names are Rios and Ruiz, my dad's are Benitez and Ruiz. I also have relatives with last names Tlatenchi, Cardoso, and others. I have friends who are from Huehuetlan with the last names Najera and Tapia. So, it'd be very interesting to swap info. I still go out to Atlixco, Chiautla, and el Cascalote to visit family.

I am familiar with el Cascalote (from a genealogical point of view). I have information on nearly 7,000 Chiautecos going back to the early 1600s, including various Rios, Ruiz, Benitez, Najera, Tapia, Cardoso and even Tlatenchi. However, I have too much information to send; I can tell you that there are various Ruiz families including a very old Spanish Ruiz family (from which I descend) that settled in Chiautla as early as the 1620s and which has both criollo and mestizo lineages. The Rios were originally pardos (spanish-indian-black); (from which I also descend), but there is so much mixture; I have dozens of lineages documents and wouldn't know which one is yours. Not only were they pardo but they were cattle ranchers as far back as the 1600s; many had enough property to leave wills. And in the 1805 census of rancho-renters of Chiautla, it was a Rios that had the largest number of cattle (more than various criollos). There are various Benites families, some going back to the 1600s and other coming more recently from Atlixco in the 1700s (from which I also descend). They may infact be the same as the Benites that were in Chiatula in the 1600s were from Huaquechula, which at the time was under Atlixco's jurisdiction. The Cardosos were mestizos and pardos and appear as far back as the 1600s. There were some Tlatenchi that were indios principales (indian nobility). At any rate, if you send me the names of your ancestors, as far back as possible, and as many dates and other detials as you have; I can see if any of those link up with the research that I've done adn I can send you the info I have.

Best

Lieve,

Unfortunately I don't have any information for the town of Tetela de Ocampo.

Note however that you are able to borrow microfilm of archival documents that will likely have information on your great-grandparents. Specifically, the church archives (1647-1964) for María de la Asunción (Tetela de Ocampo, Puebla) are available on 149 rolls of microfilm. These include baptisms, marriages and marriage banns (the marriage banns can have many details on those getting married and their family), and burials. If you could find these records for your ancestors, it would give you a lot of information about them. Note that once you go back a few generations, it is useful to research the brothers and sisters of your ancestors, as well, as sometimes that is the only way you will find information about your own ancestors.

Also, some of the microfilm has been indexed online, showing names and dates (but the microfilmed images of the original documents will have much more information). These indexes may help you quickly find documents and know which film to order.

The indexes are available on www.familysearch.org (especially the International Genealogical Index (IGI)).

Also available in microfilm is the 1930 census of Tetela, as well as civil registry archives from 1867-1917 (these include births and deaths and can have details not found in church records; or when church records are not available).

Finally, this microfilm can be ordered at various libraries in Belgium (see the list below).

I hope this helps.

Much luck,

Dan

Hows it going? Hey I wanted to ask you if you knew the Cantoran family and if you knew anything about the Tlatenchi family because I hardly know anything of my dad's side of the family.
