My name is Maria Reserva. I am the grandmother to Alfred, I have told him what my mother Maria de la luz Diaz told me that Porfidio Diaz would come to visit the family home, how my older aunt, leoncia Diaz and all my older aunts witnessed his visit of the family home, my mother said that my grandfather Francisco was his favorite nephew ( but I think he was a cousin),how later her older brother Porfidio was assinated. Eventually the family fled to the U.S. After my mother's death her uncle and Godfather Encarnacion de Diaz and Her brother Miguel Diaz wrote to us from Oaxaca sending us condolences

Hello all.
My paternal grandfather was Juan Simon Diaz born 16 May 1881 in Gómez Palacio, Durango, passed away 16 January 1974 in Oakland, CA. I never met him, but his son Salvador A. Diaz (1915-2012) was my father. My father always said that Juan Simon told him that HIS father (my dads paternal grandfather) was Porfiro Diaz's brother. Did Porfirio have a brother named Simon Diaz? (My dad may have been incorrect about his grandfather's name, but not the relation). We beleive that's who Juan Simon was named after.

I've seen pictures of Porfirio and his eye region looks very similar to my late father's.

Further information: Juan's wife (my paternal grandmother) was Paulina Francis Loera (1893-1932). They all came to the US in 1923 via Texas.

As a side note, Juan Simon reportedly had a sister who died young. She became a nun and while at her convent, the story is that she sat on a knitting needle. The wound became infected and she died. Does this story sound at all familiar to anyone? I've never met any of my father's family, so I have no way of getting additional information.

My grandfather was José Diaz married to Juana Diaz and he named his oldest son Porfirio Diaz. My uncle Porfirio Diaz lives in San Benito Texas. I have been searching if we are related to former president Porfirio Diaz.

I too am intrigued by this thread. My grandmother who was born in Guanajuato mentioned that there might be a relation to Porfirio Diaz. Her name is Josefina Beltran Diaz. She is the daughter of Susana Diaz and Francisco Beltran Diaz. My grandmother was born in 1940 and I know a lot was happening in Guanajuato at the time.

She mentioned her dad was hung by some soldiers but she can't remember most of the story. I'd love to find out more but I know these details are vague. Anything helps :)
