Recovering a copy of birth certificate in Nuevo Leon Mexico
I am writing to inquire about how to recover a copy of my father's birth certificate or birth record. If anyone has any information or suggestions how I would go about locating this document, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank You!

Re: Recovering a copy of birth certificate in Nuevo Leon Mexico
Linda,
Sounds like a great deal, but I'm a bit confused. How do the nuns get the birth certificate since they are located in civil registry office. I know that with today's technology, that the civil registry of Monterrey now has different offices in many surrounding towns. Do the nuns actually go to the civil registry and obtain a copy and then mail it.
I' m also interested since most of my search is concentrated in Santiago, Nuevo Leon.
Thanks,
Jose

Re: Recovering a copy of birth certificate in Nuevo Leon Mexico
Jose,
Don't forget that, when birth certificates are not available, collateral evidence such as marriage documentation (naming parents, age, etc) are excellent sources of imformation - I'm sure you already knew that.
I have quite a bit of information on Villa de Santiago. Was there a specific individual you were researching that I may help you find?
Regards,
Jose Carlos

Re: Recovering a copy of birth certificate in Nuevo Leon Mexico
Yes, I'm primarily searching, at this time, my paternal side Jose Gerardo Almaguer-Cavazos, but more specifically my g-grandparents.
grandfather: Jose Ruperto Almaguer, b. 1890 g-grandparents: Refugio Almaguer Petra Reyna
grandmother: Dolores Cavazos, b. 1900 g-grandparents: Simon Cavazos Trinidad Saenz
As far as I know my parents and g-parents, gg-parents were all registered in Santiago.
Any information is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Re: Recovering a copy of birth certificate in Nuevo Leon Mexico
Jose,
Because you are researching a timeframe that may not yet be accessible (at least not the sources I have) it would be very beneficial if you knoe any of your gggrandparents. At that point I have lots of info. I do have two individuals you may want to investigate. They are: Jose Refugio Almaguer Cavazos, christened 23 3 1859 in Villa d Santiago. Parents: Marcelino Almaguer and Maria Juana Cavazos. IGI C601356
Simon Cavazos Salasar, christened 30.10.1860 in Villa de Santiago. Parents: Jose Maria Cavazos and Maria del Refugio Salasar. IGI C601356
These individuals would certainly be of the correct age to be your ggrandparents but you would need to do more research.
Sorry I couldn't be of help.

Re: Recovering a copy of birth certificate in Nuevo Leon Mexico
Jose Carlos,
Thanks a bunch for the info.
I'm expecting some micro-fische film from 1889 - 1894 of Santiago, Nuevo Leon any day now which will confirm my grandfather's birthdate and his parents and grandparents names. I'm also expecting micro-fische film from 1800 - 1890 of marriage certificates from the same area.
Those names you provided are some good leads and I feel that they are indeed my gg-grandparents.
I'll let you know as soon as I find something.
Jose

Hi Laura,
If you are looking for records (i.e. baptisms, marriages, and deaths between the years 1668-1900) from the northern part of the Mexican state of Nuevo Leon (i.e. area immediately around Monterrey and north to the Texas border) contact:
Sister Maria Del Consuelo Villa Sallinas Sister Maria Rosario Urzua Lopez Tues. Wednesday and Thurs. 9:30 am to l:30 pm
They only speak Spanish.
Direct call to Mexico: 0-11-52-8 340-4407

They are very honest and will remember you if you add a little extra donation. In case you ever have to call again.

Re: Recovering a copy of birth certificate in Nuevo Leon Mexico
Hello Linda, I was reading your replies & was wondering if you would know if Madero, Nuevo Leon, Mexico & Dr.Cross, Nuevo Leon, Mexico is the northern part of the state. I'm not fimiliar with Mexico or their states. I'm researching my paternal side of my family, Vela! My grandparents are still living(Texas) & I would like to get birthcertificates of theirs & my ggrandparents. Would you know where I would go to get death certificates? It's difficult to know where to go and request for these items. I just started my family research months ago & still speak a little spanish! Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Maria Vela-Tortorici ceciliavt@ameritech.net
