Well I was beginning to wonder if anyone was ever going to answer. Yeahhh Actually you are the 2nd response to Purepero and I have another response from Aquacalientes. I have been working on this side of the family for about a year now. And have been able to go back 6 generations. I also met a girl at the Family History Center looking up her husbands side of the family in Purepero.

Send me all the names and estimated births that you know of. I have quite an extensive list of Births, Marriages, Confirmations etc from Purepero beginning 1784 to 1886. Right now I am concentrating on Martinez Madrigal and Cerda trying to tie them into the 1700's. I will see what I have on the Martinez's to date and send you some names and information. But if you could send names and estimated births it will help narrow the search. There weren't that many Martinez or Madrigal in Purepero so Maybe we could be related.

Keep in touch Chiquita

I was excited to see your posting mentioning the names Madrigal & Martinez and the town of Purepero, Michoacan. My fathers' family is from (and still is) from Purepero. His surname is Trujillo.

I have started to research my mothers side of the family that came from Chilchota and Charapan in Michoacan.

My maternal ggrandfather was Aurelio Martinez and was born around the 1870's his wife's name was Petronila Geronimo. My grandfather Ramon, was born in Charapan, was the oldest of the their 4 children. They had 2 daughters Adelaida and Manuela and the youngest brother was named Enrique.

My grandfathers' sister Manuela married into the Madrigal family. I know that in American genealogy it is not unusual for families to intermarry into different generations and I am wondering if that is what happened with my great aunt Manuela. Could she have be named after Juan Jose Pimentel's wife Maria Manuela Martinez-Madrigal? Could she be a direct relation to my ggreatgrandfather Aurelio Martinez?

I am also curious to know how you conducted your research. Did you have to spend extensive time in Purepero?

This Postie definitely is a good one. I have been in touch with Irene and found her Ggrandfather and we are trying to link up our Martinez-Madrigals. There were not too many of them over the span of 100 years.

It was great to see Postie with names that I recognize throughout my research. No direct link yet.. But the names are familiar in the information I have. I have begun with the 1784 census and have a pretty complete listing of Pimentels in Purepero. It started with about 3 families (Probablly related). The Cerda's have been tough for me because from the Census it looks like they took over the town. Alot of Cerda's to look at. Martinez has a bit less than the Pimentels.

Like I said I have seen alot of the names you listed and will get you more information.

Please EMail me CSoliz@aol.com.... Send me estimated years if you have them. It just narrows the search a bit. Send what ever Martinez info you have too.

Keep in touch Your possible Cousin

I have recently undertaken the greatest adventure of my life. I was so happy to have read about your research on "OUR FAMILY". I would appreciate any help that you might give me. My mothers maiden name is Maciel and her father and mother were both from Purepero, Michoacan. My grandmothers maiden name was Francisca Pimentel Cerda. Her father was Placido Cerda and her mothers maiden name was Librada Melagosa Pimentel. My mothers father name was Carlos Maciel, he and his brother, Jesus Maciel migrated to the United States around 1910. He left my grandmother behind in Purepero, Michoacan with their son Leopoldo Maciel. He did not send for them for several years. When he did my grandmother, ggrandfather and mother and uncle came here. They first came through Texas then to Redondo Beach, CA.
My mother's family and grandfathers family still leave there. My grandfather Carlos carried the middle name of Escamilla which was his mother's maiden name. He left behind in Purepero a brother named Graciano Maciel. His younger brother who had come over with him, Jesus Escamilla Maciel left for somewhere up northern CA never to be heard of again. I have trying to track him also.
If there is any information that you can give me I would greatly appreciate it.
I also have the Martinez side of the family in purepero that I am looking for.

Francisca

I went to the library and started looking in the stuff I have past 1900. Most of my research has been 1784-1886..

Well I have one confirmed bit of information for you.

Confimation 1914

Leopoldo parents Carlos Maciel y Francisca Cerda the Godparent is Graciano Maciel.

This should hopefully place Carlos and Francisca being born around 1870-80 more likely the later but you never know.

I copied a bunch of infor and will look tonight....

Francisco Fernandez and Julia Madrigal Julias Parents were

Pablo Madrigal and Mariana Heredia

Agustina confirmed pg 16 1914 #1012 God parent Maria Maciel
Julia Confirmed pg 16 1914 #1013 God parent Maria Maciel.

I gave you this already

Carlos Maciel y Francisca Cerda
Leopoldo #992 pg 16 Confirmed 1914 Godparent Graciano Macial

Antonio Maciel y Leonor Escamilla (Contreras)

Librada confirmed in 1883 pg 260. Godparent Juana Martinez

Also for your information my Aunt Lucia (Pimentel) Soliz is married to Francisco Fernandez (Ramirez) they met out here in California but his family is also from Purepero.

Celsa Martinez may have married Octaviano Pimentel... but I have to research to confirm since (Murphys law applies) there are at least 2-3 Celsa Martinez.

Severiano Martinez could have married Juana Herrera (I have to confirm since there are a few Severianos. I just have to plot them out and look at the years.... There are also a few Nepomuencino Martinez 2 I believe One married Aniseta Arroyo and had a son named Pedro who's Godparent is Valeriano Cortes. Like I said there is alot more but I am still studying...

Have you gotten intouch with Irene yet.... Trying to tie the three of us together. I'm going to call my aunt right now and find out about my Uncle Francisco Fernandez family....

Veronica What year were your parents born. All the surnames you mention are in Purepero. Infact our Cerda, Martinez, Pimentel, Madrigal married into all those names. I find it interesting that your family was from Aguililla that's why I asked when were they born. I know Our Pimentel's moved to Coalcoman which is right next door to Aguililla even though it is a distance from Purepero, I can't imagine why complete families would pack up and leave. It is interesting that all you surnames are in our towns. I believe one of my GGG grandmothers mother was a Rodriguez but I am still trying to tie in for sure. I know that Rodriguez and Munguia are godparents to some of my Great G uncles and aunts. Talk to your parents and see if you can get some more names and estimated dates, aunts uncles. I've done extensive research in Purepero and have several records and listings.

I believe my GGG grandfather Juan Jose Pimentel married Maria Ynes Rodriguez... Jose Vega married Rosa Munguia or Murguia however you say it... At first I thought it was a misspelling of Magana but I guess not. Ramon Ayala was a Godparent to my great uncle Francisco Lomeli. Juan B. Rodriguez y Petra Villalobos was Godparent to Juan Florencia Lomeli, and Juan Lomeli married Maria Petra Rodriguez/ There is more.... but see what you can find out.
