I went there in 1998 before the recent troubles. I would not recommend going anytime soon as it is not safe. I would recommend you look at the records of the Mormon church. They believe that they achieve their salvation through the intercession of their ancestors. As such, they have gone around the world to acquire copies of vital records. I found my information in their records. Long ago, I had to order the microfilm sent to a local branch. I think you can now access the information online. Good luck. Guy Giannerini
