Where or what is considered Old Mexico?

I am sure that I'm in the wrong area but I'm not sure where else to ask.
I have been looking at a 1930 census for Arizona - and my Great Grandmother was born in OLD MEXICO....in 1896 and her husband was born there also in 1880.
What is considered Old Mexico? I have googled it - and can't find anything other than where all the Old Mexico restaurants are in the US :)!!!
Thank you!!!!!

There is no such thing as Old Mexico per say. Mexico is a Country which borders on with California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. New Mexico is a State which is between Texas and Arizona. Hope this clarifies everything for you

Question concerning "Old Mexico": The 1930 census enumerator who entered the names, ages, etc, wrote the country of origin as Old Mexico, rather than entering the country name as Mexico. He/she who wrote that is misleading and it causes confusion. I could be wrong, keep in mind that, in time, town names do change. Consider visiting your local library to check it out. Good luck, SC

Hello Susan,

All messages in the thread that you posted the following inquiry to were deleted, because the thread contained a previous commercial message:

"Dear Fox,
How were you able to obtain the newspaper "La Constitution" and the Governor's "Memoria de la administration" (volume II)? I am interested in Governor Ramon Corral while he was in office. My great uncle was his personal secretary and traveled from Mexico City to Hermosillo with Governor Ramon. My father and his family lived in Hermosillo at the time Governor Ramon was in office.

I am interested in your research, regards, Susan C."

I looked up another message you posted, trying to get in touch with you. Please respond to this message. You can also contact me directly: fox "at" nevadalink "dot" com

Hello -- I too have been searching, unsuccessfully, for a reference to "Old Mexico." My great grandfather's WWII Draft Registration card said he was born in "Old Mexico." I have no other clue where he was born, other than this reference. Were you able to confirm whether this was simply the country of mexico, or the portions of the US prior to the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo?

I also can only obtain names of Mexican restaurants when I google the term :)
Thanks for any information, Roxanne

Do you ever figure this out? I am reading the obituary of my 4x great grandfather, and it says he went for a while to "Old Mexico, where he was engaged in driving stage." My guess is that he would have done this in the 1840s/1850s.

The old census maps, like on this link (http://www.us-census.org/states/map.htm) show that Mexico, or in later years called Old Mexico, covered vast areas of what we now know to be the United States. I too have ancestors who were born in "old Mexico". By checking these census maps and the years they were drawn you will be able to determine what state(s) that reference includes.

Hope this helps!
