Surnames: Munoz
Maria Tibursia & Victor H. Munoz lived in San Juan de los lagos/San Julian (Jalisco) and had 4 children - Augustina , Refugio, Dolores (3/9/1989) and Jesus (1901). The children may have crossed over to the US via El Paso, Texas about the early 1920's seeking job opportunities. When Victor died, Maria remarried and had more children. One was named Catarino.
Does anyone have any information about this family? Looking for clues of the past history.

Did Victor have a brother?

Unfortunately, I am not sure. I have asked around and no one yet seems to know. Alot of history was lost when my grandfather and his brother died in the US (1971, 1980). It is their father that you are asking about...and very little was known about their mother and father who lived in Jalisco. It is clear that Victor died when my grandfather and his brother were young. As soon as they were of age (16-19?) they left home because by that time their mother remarried and not wanting to become a burden, they left seeking a job in the US.

What information do you have? Did the information I list create a curiosity or strike a memorable event with a family member of yours? Are you in fact related to a Munoz family in Mexico? Please explain what you know...and maybe we can piece the puzzle....thank you for your interest...

I asked if Victor had a brother because my great grandfather is Pedro Muñoz. I know he was married in San Juan del Los Lagos but I don't know if he was born there and I don't know if he had brothers or sisters. I know he married Francisca Lozano in 1884 and had 5 children, Juan Manuel, Trinidad, Maria Jesus, Guadalupe and Raphael, which all came to the States in 1918 and 1919 except Juan Manuel who came earlier. Trinidad is my grandmother.

I will ask my family. My grandmother's name was Maria Jesus Gaitan(Gaytan)(not sure of spelling)...I was told that she was raised by a family referred to as the Lozanos. I understand that there may be a family in the San Fernando Valley (where I am located) (which is north of Los Angeles in California) Could this be the same family that you mentioned??related???. However, where are you/your family located? We just had our family reunion in July where we have aunt/uncles (now in their 60's & 70's) who I am asking them to remember any slight information...Please provide any other detail so I can continue to use to ask my family and hopefully we can make a successful connection....thank you very much for sharing your family's information and also thank you for your willingness to investigate our family's ancestry...Lucy

When my mother married, her and my grandmother, Trinidad Muñoz Martinez, lost all contact with the family. Now there is only me, a sister and a brother, which none live in the states. My brother and sister live in France and me in Spain, so it only makes things more difficult.

I'll keep asking my family...I do know that the name Munoz is from the word "munos" which means "of the hill" and it is a Spanish word (not from Mexico or Indian derivative)...so if your grandparent(s) returned to Spain(?) or their homeland....this all could make sense...however, I'll continue to ask.

Thanks for the quick response. Lucy

All of my mother's family, the last that I know are in California. The only ones that left to Europe is my mother, me and my brother and sister. That's why it has been hard to find out what happened to everyone.

Do you have any information about physical features - my grandfather (Dolores Munoz whose father was Victor) was about 5'7"...his brother (Jesus Munoz) was taller although most of my Munoz relatives are short. For example, my mother (Refugia Munoz) was 4'11" tall and siblings were about 5' to 5'4" with the exception of two brothers who might have been 5'8" or 5'9". In general, however, they are short and stocky. My grandfather was part of a twin (the other died...not sure when..)and the reason I mention it is because I believe twins follow the father side of the family. So, are you or your siblings a set of twins? How about beauty marks? How old is your mother? Is she still alive? How old are you? Because my grandmother had 9 children, her grandchildren (which includes me) ages range from 60 - 30. If anyone can recall anything, please do not hesitate to pass it along as it may still be helpful to me when I ask my family...something might trigger an idea...this weekend is a US holiday (Labor Day) so maybe I'll have a chance to contact other family members...have a great day! Lucy

Ask your family if they recall any of the following information: Francisco & Petra (Gutierrez) Munoz married in 1790; Jose Maria (Gutierrez) Munoz & Pasquala (Gutierrez) Munoz married in 1820; Victor had a first marriage with children named: Feliciano, Pasqual and Josefa. His second marriage in 1845 was with Tibercia (Hernandez Luna) with children: Refugio, Agustina, Dolores & Jesus. I do know that Refugio, Agustina, Dolores & Jesus came or followed a family named Jesus & Valeriana Lozano who came to Los Angeles, California and settled in Pacoima and San Fernando (this is north of Los Angeles).

Unfortunately, I don't have any information leading to Pedro Munoz. Let me know what you find out. Thank you. Lucy...also Gutierrez was the maiden name
