Re: Finding Alarcon and Diaz From Presidio, Tepehuanes, Durango

Hello,
I know this thread has been up here for quite a while, but I was wondering if you still needed information about possible ties with Alarcon, Diaz and Corral surnames. My paternal family is from Presidios, my grandmother was an Alarcon and my grandfather was Diaz, and I know that there is also some Corral in the mix too. Let me know if you are still looking for information, and at the very least, I can let you know of a site which has copies of the baptismal records of Presidios, some as early as the 1700.

Looking for Valles or Pescador families from Durango

Hello: I am trying to find information about any relatives or ancestors on my dad's side. My father's name was Esteban Valles Pescador, he was born in Durango around 1920, his father's name was Esteban Valles and his mother's name was Guadalupe Pescador. He died in 81 in Durango and I don't have a lot of information about him, for what I know his father had a ranch, he divorced his mother when he was still young and he remarried. Here I found a census from 1930 with a Esteban Valles listed there as a farmer and owner in the Panuco de Coronado area, I believe that it could be his father (my grandfather). So I am concentrating in that area. If you know of somebody with those last names o if their father's name is the same around those areas Gomez Palacio, Vicente Guerrero, Panuco d Coronado o Durango. Please let me know, thank you.

CarieQuinn - if you look in my post above I dropped some information about the soldier who died in france for you. I remember hearing the names Reginalda and Manuel. I miss Wasco as it was when I was little. I myself was born in Bakersfield, but raised a little bit in Shafter and a little bit in Wasco. I really hope you get to read some of what I wrote, might answer some stuff about Charles =).

Re: Familia Borjon, Lobatoz, Zacatecas,

I am one of the younger members of the Borjon descendants... I am now 31 going on 32. My Great Grandfather was Francisco Borjon - I reckon it would be the person above, Frank's uncle. I know My Great Great Grandfather was also named Francisco. I actually stumbled across a picture behind a picture in the same frame of my Great Grandfather, His brothers, and a casket with one of the brothers in it... I think Salvador #1... it was the brother who passed away in a cave in at the mines. In this borjon line there were Francisco, married to Georgia Villegas... they had 3 children, Roque, Frankie, and my beautiful grandmother Chiquita. From the grandkids were Eydie (my beautiful mom) , Kelly, Michael, Terry, Chris, Mark and Erin. And then from there of course you have a million of us newer generation. I actually have Borjon proudly tattooed on my forearm to commemorate my great grandmother's passing. I know someone above mentioned someone being killed in WWII. You're most likely referring to Charlie Borjon - I used to read the newspaper clippings my great grandmother kept in binders when I was little and there was a great deal about his passing in there. The papers said he threw himself on a grenade to save a few of his friends during the French Invasion. He passed away in France. There was also another odd death, my cousin Steven Borjon was killed in Mexico during the cold war - he did research for the government, and it was a quick hit and run. His father was John Borjon and his mother was Angela. I know everyone in the family still speaks very highly of Steven. Anyway, I hope I've added something to this thread. I have also found some stuff about part of the family splitting off to Italy and changing the name to Borgia, which is FASCINATING as he was the Spanish pope. But other than that all roads lead to Jerez, Zacatecas. I also went to elementary school with 2 other borjons that were cousins that pronounced the last name "Bor-john", but it's been so long that I can't remember their names except that they were, I think from John and Angela's line.

Hello, I like to ask a few questions about my search & my family of Garcia's. First of all my name is Rosa Garcia. I'm searching for the families on my father side his name is Jesus Garcia born 1929 in Durango Mexico, his Garcia's families are from Durango and I have no clues or names of his parents/my grandparents, or the pueblos or cities of Durango Mexico of where they are from. I only have little information about my father & his siblings. My father had my mother name us after his family of Garcias. As I read your post a few things caught my attention such as your families are from Durango Mexico plus Your mother name is Angelina Garcia which I have a sister name Angelina Garcia, Juana, Adulfo & Jesus as well. My father use to tell me stories of his families coming to Mexico from spain & that he had lots of families there in Durango Mexico. Sadly I never had the chance to meet any of his families. I remember he spoke about a sister who he use to visit a lot during the times of the 1960s & early 1970s before going to Durango Mexico from California. He mention somewhere in L-A Calif. My father suppose to have died in Durango Mexico or maybe Monterray NL Mexico. From what I understand he had more children beside us in Monterray NL Mx. I have a picture of my father if you would like to see it, you can click on my screen name im1rosa here on Ancestry. It should take you to all my pictures. Thank you for attention. my email is:
im1rosa@aol.com PS. I had my Garcia DNA done with www.familytreedna.com through my brother Adulfo Garcia

I thought you were using familysearch.org. Below is the link to the record image from the microfilm. The Jose Francisco record is on the upper left of the image.

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-267-11661-157189-84...

If that doesn't work, you will need to go to familysearch.org, select Mexico, then from the list of historical record collections, select Mexico, Catholic Church Records. Then you will need to select "Browse through 16,596,760 images". Then click thru using this path: Durango>Mapimi>San Fernando>Bautismos 1887-1888, then go directly to image #191.

You can also search the various names of what you have found and from there go to the various record image collections. For Mexico, the indeces and the images are not linked yet, so sometimes it's a tough slog to go through it all. But I broke through a ton of brick walls using familysearch.org; I've been able to trace my maternal grandmother's lineage to the early 1700s in the state of Durango and other Mexican states! And it's free. Plus you can find marriage and death records, and church and civil records.

I searched the familysearch index for Ma Guadalupe Rivas and Gavina Carrera and found several other children (but not Tiburcia) baprized in San Fernando and Nazas.

Also note that not all records have been indexed. I've needed to make assumptions and leaf through images to find another ancestor, but it helps if you can get some decent information from a previous record.

All my grandparents came through Lerdo except my maternal grandmother, who was born in Durango. This is why I am comfortable with these records. If you continue searching in Lerdo before about 1897, you will need to search under Mapimi>San Fernando. Also, familysearch has "Lerdo" and Ciudad Lerdo" as separate localities, adding more to the confusion.

Now about my grandfather. He moved to California and married my grandmother, Luz Ybarguen, about 1908. They lived in San Bernardino County, Imperial County, a brief stay in Mexicali, and then lived near downtown Los Angeles in 1930. He was listed as working in a furniture company in 1930. They moved back to Lerdo or Torreon in 1931 due to the (forced?) repatriation during the Depression. He died of appendicitis about 1935. About 2 years later, Luz moved back to LA; the children, except one, eventually moving back to LA through the 1940s. That's almost everything I know about him. My mom was very guarded about her family history, as if there was something there she did not want us to learn.

You can send me a private message though ancestry.com if you need further information. Have fun! I have lots to think about.

Thank you for your rapd response. I really did not think I would ever hear from anyone. I have to tell you that my Dad did say he had two uncles. The fore mentioned Jose Francisco and the other uncle's name was Juan Jose. I have never been able to find any birth information on him but if he were the same Juan Martinez?
My Dad was Able to tell be a bit of history of both but as to which uncle's trade is foggy. One was a railroad worker and the other an electrician. One moved to Los Angeles California. One died during an accident. I believe my Dad said he was electrocuted. One had a son who served in WWII in the Air Force.
My Dad also mentioned the last names of Banuelos in El Paso but I have not found anything other than on my grandmothers (Antonia's) border crossing record. Stated that her destination was a cousin by the name of Anastacio Banuelos in El Paso, Mexico.
You have definitely given me much to process and think about. You may have opened another door for my search.
I have to ask you, how were you able to look up the parish records so quickly? I have been going to ancestory.com/Mexico baptism.
Thank you for all your insight.
Cynthia Hill (maiden name Rivas)

If I understand your questions correctly,"Ma" is usually an abbreviation for Maria. So the complete name is probably Maria Guadalupe Rivas (he probably went by the name "Lupe"). I have known a few males that had the name Maria Guadalupe.

I looked up the record for Jose Francisco ("Franco" is an abbreviation), and it noted "H.N. de Tiburcia Rivas" - H.N. means "hijo natural" - which would typically mean that Tiburcia was not married when Jose Francisco was born. This would have been different if the record noted that Jose Francisco was "H.L." or "hijo legitimo".

However, the record noted that the "A.M.", or "abuelos maternos" (maternal grandparents) were Guadalupe Rivas and Gavina Carrera. Would your Ma Guadalupe actually be Tiburcia's father rather than her husband?

Now this is all *very* interesting for me because my grandfather, who was known as Juan Martinez, was adopted as a young child. I have very little information on him. My mother told me that his natural parents were named Matias Riva and Maria Carriera - certainly not an exact match to the grandparents listed above, but my mom usually did not have had all her facts straight.

Additionally, I think Juan Martinez was born about 1887 in Lerdo, DGO. But Lerdo was originally known as Hacienda San Fernando, with the Capilla de la hacienda San Fernando as the original church, which is the church this baptismal record is really from. Lastly, one of the godparents was Petronila Martines.

Could my grandfather have been related to these Rivas and adopted by a relative of Petronila? Don't know, but I need to look further.

Searching for any history regarding my great grandmother and grandfather.
Her name was Tiburcia Rivas (married name). The only way his name appeared on baptism documents was as follows: Ma Guadalupe Rivas.
Their children were: Antonia Rivas baptism was 13 October 1889 and
Jose Franco Rivas baptism was 24 October 1887. both were baptized at the church San Fernando in Mapimi Durango Mexico. I cannot seem to find any information on Ma Guadalupe Rivas (what was his first name?)
I also cannot find any more information on his wife Tiburcia. What was her maiden name? When were they born and where. I was able to find the pages in the church baptism of both Antonia and Jose Franco but only Tiburcia is listed. The father (Ma Guadalupe Rivas) is not listed. I have spent hours searching for his name in these church pages but have found nothing. Does anyone know what his first name could possibly have been with an abbreviation like (Ma.) I have been able to follow the trail of Antonia to her death, but I cannot find any information on her parents, Ma Guadalupe Rivas and Tiburcia Rivas.

Hello everyone...

I have the full geneology on the "De La Hoya" name and origin.
In brief, here is an ancestrial timeline of who we are and where we come from:

Origin: Hoya (German pronunciation: [ˈhoːja]or {Ho:yia"}) is a town in the District of Nienburg, in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is situated on the left and right bank of the Weser, approx. 20 km north of Nienburg, and 15 km southwest of Verden. Our ancestors were Lords and Counts with land rights and county establishments.
German Crest: We have 2 German Crests:
1) 2 Bear Claws on Yellow SHield
2) 1 Bear Claw one side and Snake Sword on other on Yellow and Blue Shield.

Hoya is also the seat of the Samtgemeinde ("collective municipality") Grafschaft Hoya. Hoya was the center of the medieval and early modern County of Hoya.

Some our German ancestors made a geographic move or migrated in 1503 - 1512(date verified), from Hoya, Germany to France, by way of the following: Strasbourg to Lyon to Nice to Narbonne (where the Fluer de Lis on Blue Shield was awarded).
Frech Crest incorporation: Gold/Yellow Fluer de Lis on Blue and Shield with Bear claw and snake sword at base

In 1597 - 1602 (date unsure) our family migrated to Malaga, Salamanca Spain by way of the following route: Zaragosa, Aragon to Alicante to Granada to Malaga, Salamnca, and established a small town named Pueblo De La Hoya Near Andalucia, Spain.

From Andalucia, our family migrated to Mexico in 1710 - 1722 (date unsure)and landed in gulf states and migrated to Durango. Where they settled in various cities, mainly; Ramirez, Victoria, Durango and Donato, and Gomez Palacio, and a few other smaller towns.

Migration to U.S.A.: The earliest reported passport granted to a DeLaHoya is 1898 (to a Enrique V. DeLaHoya (this is direct relative of DeLaHoya's from Ramirez, Victoria, Durango where Oscar De La Hoya's family is from.

You can search German history for our last name. Its original name was von Hoya, then changed to Des Hoya in France then to De Hoya and De La Hoya in Spain and permanently to De La Hoya in Mexico.

We come from a Noble line of knights, Lords and Counts. There is written history that the De La Hoya nobility was issued by the Roman Catholic Empire.

Hope this helps

Hi Jose Luis,
Thank you very much for this information. This is really interesting. It seems we are talking about the same Guadalupe Bagues! My great grand aunt used to say that when Guadalupe married Jose Calixto Porras she was a wealthy widow without children (it makes sense that she didnt know about her son because she was from a different generation). Do you have any idea about the dates (either her age, when she married, became widow, etc.) when she lived? Also, if you are interested, I can send you information about Guadalupe Bagues family.
Thanks Lourdes

Jose Luis:

Completely off topic but I noticed that you are from Spain.

I'm interested if you can help me with my research. I've found a document of my 4th & 5th great grandfather stating that they were from the area of "Villa de San Simon, Santiago de Galicia". Is this the same as Santiago Compostela?

Thanks!
Janet Iglesias

Jose Luis,

It was hard to follow your response at first, but then I realized that you are in Spain. This is a point of view that that has intrigued me for quite some time because I think you have a unique and important perspective in regards to our ancestry. I have wondered if there are people in Spain looking for their ancestors that left Spain for Mexico. Saludos, and thanks for sharing your family history, here.

Thanks!
