My name is Deborah Nevarez. I am the granddaughter of Gilberto Nevarez and the gret-granddaughter of Francisco Nevarez of Santiago Papasquiaro, Durango, Mexico (born about 1890) and Natividad Ramirez Natividad of Santa Rosalia de Camargo, Chihuahua. My grandparents were Pentecostal ministers who founded three churches in Los Angeles, CA. They had eight sons, who were the only family in WWII, who had the most family members serving at the same time; they have been wriiten about as well in military history books.

I would like to know if you came across any records in the 19th or early 20th centuries mentioning Francisco Nevarez. He is buried at Evergreen Cemetary in East Los Angeles, but I would like to know more about his family of origin: were they Mestizos? Basque? How long have the Nevarez family been in Durango, since the 18th Century?

Your assistance is very much appreciated.

Thank you,

Surnames: Mendoza, Carrasco, Nevarz, Hernandez, Mireles, Gavilan, Echeverría,
Javier, It has been a long time between posts (10 years).

I came across a historical document while searching for info on Nicolas Perez Gavilan Echeverria, the second Bishop of Chihuahua who you and I discussed. This has to do with Luis Terraza. I remembered that you had mentioned this family and thought, as this was a obscure document that you may not have come by it and that it may be of some interest to you. This was origanilly in Spanish.

I will provide the link and the paragraph mentioning Luis Terraza.

"27 The Catholic Circle of Chihuahua offers a welcoming banquet at NPG, at Directions to the diocese. Among those invited are Sisniega Frederick Henry C. Creel, Luis Terrazas, Severo I. Aguirre, Silvestre Terrazas, and some priests of the diocese and several people who accompanied the bishop from Durango. (Comprehensive review in The North, Thursday 29 may 1902 and El Correo de Chihuahua, 29 may 1902)".

I hope this is of interest to you.

Hi I just came across your post while browsing. The Nevarez family has been in the Durango area since the 16th century by way of Spain. They were one of many families that were in the royal Spanish army. Theses families are documented in several books. Good luck in your search.
