Garza, de la Garza, Rodriquez, Villareal from Piedras Negras, Coahuila - Get me started
Hi all,
I'm starting on a new line in my family research and am looking for some guidance. I have a few ancestors from the Piedras Negras area of Coahuila. I have no idea where to really look for info from Mexico, so any pointers are appreciated. I'll post what I have below on the off chance that someone has something that matches up.
My Great Grandmother was Leonor Liberata Rodriquez Garza. She was born in Piedras Negras on June 28, 1893 to Ezequiel Garza (b. 1867) and Liberata Rodriquez (b. 1869, d. Jan. 1925). Ezequiel's parents were Don Faustino de la Garza (b. 1841) and Donna Mascimiana Villareal (b. 1845). Liberata's parents were Don Jose Rodriquez (b. 1843) and Donna Juana (b. 1847).
As far as I know they were all born in Piedras Negras. My great grandmother was married in 1915 to John Frances Eberling. She died Dec. 12, 1964 in Ajo, Arizona.
All tips, links and pointers on doing research for ancestors from Mexico are appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Brian, do you know if there is a Family History Center nearby? or you can go to www.familysearch.orgthey may have a listing for one near your area, you may even check out their online database. But if you do find that you have a Fam History Cntr close by, they can help you order loaner Microfilm of records from Piedras negras... you get them on loan for $3.25, for a month, you can renew the second time for same price but you get the film for two months, the third time if you're still not finished, you get it on indefinate loan. Hope this helps, and good luck in youyr quest! ~Horacio

BRAIN, This is what I have a problem with your great great grandmother was not born in Mexico, she was born in spain and acording to my father she married an Indian from Geronimoes tribe in fact my Dad showed me some of the places where they camped. This is all what my father would say about his mother. It was my Dads sister who told her children and grandchildren about the spain conection.

I really don't know much at this point. When you say my GG Grandmother I think you meant my G Grandmother. The only info I have is the 1930 census which says Leonor was born in Mexico and so were her parents. I also have info from the LDS site which says the same thing. I have not however had a chance to look into things any further than that. What I need to find is documentation one way or the other I guess.

Brian,
I hope you are able to receive this message. I just began research on my family tree. Leonor is also my great grandmother. Her son Clarence Eberling was my grandfather and his son Jack Eberling is my biological father. I am interested in finding out how you and I are related so I can add you to my tree. I hope to hear from you soon!

I've got info I can share with you going back quite a few generations of Eberlings. Clarence and my grandfather were brothers. Ancestry won't let me contact you through this board without being a paying member, but you can find my email address here... http://www.brianeberling.com/?page_id=2~Brian

I to have gone through with Gary Felix and FTDNA project. Have you done a YDNA test? I have the Rodriguez surname, and don't know much about that side. The only names I have are Jose, my grandfather b. 1896 and his father who went by the name Isidro. He had a common law wife named Maria Concepcion Marin. And one of the daughters married into the Valdez family in TX. My uncle said that my grandfather mentioned Piedras Negras a lot. So either he was from there or had relatives there that they visited? With the DNA testing I have had done I have Figueroa's and a YDNA exact match with Benito Sanchez which I know nothing about.
