Am just completing a thirty year family tree search.
Found out that my great great grandfather was one of the German Russeks who settled in Chihuahua in 1863. They were Ashkenazi Jews. That explains why there are few baptismal records of their children, although they married devout Catholic Mexicans. I was told that "deals" were struck between the spouses about which child would be raised Christian or Jew. Hope this information helps if you wish to pursue another theory of your ancestors real origins. Remain delightfully surprised with my reunions. Regards.
