Just to update my own post. Manuel and Miguel Amao may have actually been father and son. Manuel was married to Teresa Cota on 27 August, 1823 at San Antonio, Baja California Sur. A birth record I recently came across for their daughter Micaela Felipa Amao (b 8 May, 1846 in San Antonio, Baja California Sur) indicates her paternal grand parents were Francisco Amao and Mercedes Falco(n) and her maternal grand parents were Francisco Cota and Josefa Martinez.
