John was my grandfather, born in Lanarkshire, Scotland in 1864.He married in Australia but left his family about 1908 to search for gold in the Yukon.
After serving with the Canadian army in World War 1, he returned to Dawson City where he died in 1939.
I would appreciate any further information during his time in Canada.
Regards, Brian Reynolds.

Hello

Your message is several years old and you may have found all you need. However, I know something of John Ferguson and would be interested in hearing from you.

I am researching Australians and New Zealanders who took part in the Klondike Gold Rush and, while JF is just outside my target years, I have come across him in my research in the Dawson City Museum. By now, you very likely have more info on him than I have in my files.

I suspect he may be the ragged man who spent his days reading in the library in Dawson City Library, as recounted by Laura Berton in her memoirs (I married the Klondike) . No real evidence, just a hunch.

Hello Janelle

Just to let you know I have received your message board messages. I won't be able to absorb and "process" the information for a few days as other tasks need to doing first. Thank you for your reply and information!

I have a file on a John Ferguson in a filing box at the bottom of a very large pile of filing boxes and will dig it out soon as possible. Office is a mess at present.

Do you know of the the ragged man in the Berton book?

Robin

Ferguson, Ben: Fairchild Hotel Bar, Dawson (1900) from Historic Yukon & Alaska Hotels, Roadhouses, Saloons & Cafes at Index - Proprietors and Managers http://www.yukonalaska.com/pathfinder/gen/rhse_ownersDG.html

You could contact Ed and Star Jones, a New Mexico couple who have summered in Dawson for 25+ years, cleaning out cemetaries, volunteering to take tourists / researchers to the YOOP and other cemetaries in search of their ancestors. Ed has a database of some undertakers (earely 1900s) and has, I believe, some of the address lists from early postal workers so he can confirm addresses during certain years. Contact him at edandstar@gmail.com. Ed is a wonderful resource of Dawson info.

When leaving Dawson during my 2011 short visit, Ed mentioned to me that my Romeo Poulin (1899-1939 in Dawson) had a business partner, a Ferguson. Do you see any mention of a Romeo Poulin? thanks.
