I am looking for anyone who would remember my father who lived in Whitehorse and surrounding areas between the mid 70's up until his death in 1985. He ran a trap line approx 60 miles outside of Whitehorse for a time and also worked in the construction trades and possibly sheet metal work.
He may have also used his christened name Alexander Angus Sutherland. He had some of his articles published in local newspapers, most likely using the Derrick surname. He was married to a lady whose maiden name may have been Smarch.
He passed away in 1985 enroute to a new job at a construction site in Alaska. Any info would be appreciated to help me piece together my Dad's final years.

Hello Nedra, thank you for the reply. I am not sure if the man you describe is the same one I knew as my father. My father was never in the military and he was not adopted. Since Alan Derrick was not his real name I have always wondered if he assumed someone else's identity and was using it as his own while in the North. Perhaps someone he met in the USA, perhaps the man that raised you, the REAL Alan Derrick. It is a possibility. Do you have any pictures of your Alan that you could send me and are you able to tell me the time frame when you knew him or when he was married to your mom and Marianne? I guess a picture and some dates would help us to determine if we are indeed connected to the same Alan Derrick. I am assuming if you are on this message board you are like me in that you have always wondered what happened to him? Perhaps if we find out he is one and the same a mystery will finally be solved!

Hi Dawn! Alan said that he was Adopted by the Sutherlands - he said he was in the Korean War - he said he served in the Marines. He was with a Woman in Whitehorse. He often Wrote Letters to the Editors of the Newspapers. He died in Whitehorse at the time you said. We were Sutherlands first - then he changed his name to Derrick after working in Alberta in the Oil Fields. He was a Sheet Metal Worker and taught my Brothers his trade. I am sure this is the same Man. My Mother met him in AA in Halifax in about 1970. He was with us until I was 8 in 1974.
