The Canadian Expeditionary Force Study Group is working to match the soldiers of the Great War (1914-1921) that have no known grave site and are thus recorded only in the Canadian Book of Remembrance by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. We are also matching soldiers on the main memorials at Vimy, Menin Gate, Beaumont Hamel, Halifax, etc.
Dougal McKay is one of Canada's First World War dead whose grave location is unknown. We expect it is in Stornoway Saskatchewan. All the details we have are posted to our forum here:
http://cefresearch.ca/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=80&t=13120Dougal was the son of Angus McKay and had two brothers (Samuel and Malcolm) that also served. Samuel died in the war and is buried at the Shorncliffe Military Cemetery in the UK. Malcolm survived the war and may be buried in or near the burial site of his brother Dougal or father Angus.
We would appreciate any assistance anyone is able to provide so that Private Dougal McKay can be properly commemorated. Once located, the grave site will receive an official CWGC headstone and the records will be updated.
