Barb,
The town you call Touchwood is in fact the trading post of Touchwood. There was a fire destroyed the trading post. It was never rebuilt. There is a cairn and a small regional park to commemorate the trading post. It is located between the villages of Lestock and Punnichy. The Lestock and Punnichy history books are available on line at ourroots.ca. This should give you a better picture of how life was for the early pioneers.
