Bertie Depryke

Classification: Query
Surnames: Depryke, Pryke
My fathers cousin Bertie Pryke was born in Hitcham, Suffolk, England in 1894.
He was sent to Canada by Barnardos in 1905.
He was conscripted into the CEF in 1917 to serve in Europe and returned to Canada in 1919. He gave his name as Bertie Depryke when enlisting.
I have no knowledge of his whereabouts after this time.
Recently I found a reference in the Saskatchewan SRI of a Depryke living in Weyburn in 1921.
I would be grateful if any one could help.

Wonder if his name was actually Robert. Read the Pryke bio on pages 603 and 604 in this on-line history book. http://www.ourroots.ca/e/toc.aspx?id=4550 Butch

Many thanks for your efforts. I have already sourced this information.

The reason that I believe Bertie Pryke and Bertie Depryke are the same person is because:
on Bertie Depryke's enlistment papers his birthday is the same, and he gives his mother's name as Mrs Louis Ford. He also stated that he was born in Jersey Channel Island. (There is no record of him there.)

Barnados told me that he was living with a George Tompson in Florence, Ontario in November 1910.(George Tompson's neighbours were a Mr and Mrs North.

I must wait until CEF army records have been digitised in 2016 to get further information

The CEF attestation shows Bertie Depryke born on Bray Island and next of kin as Mrs. Louise North with relationship as mother. The writing is hard to read, but check it yourself. Butch
