Hi there!
I'm looking for information on the John Leidl family and the Jacob Germin family. John Leidl's two sons married Jacob Germin's only two daughters in a double wedding in the early 1900's in Leipzig, in the St. Joseph's Colony (but before the present church was built). I have some information if anyone is interested.
Thanks,
Barry Leidl Guelph, Ontario

Well, we are related. but my information is a bit different. I think John Leidl was actually your step-great-grandfather was John Leidl, but you also more distantly related by blood to him. My records show that Matt Leidl's father was named Clement, and he was John Leidl's brother. John would then be Matt's uncle. John's son Martin (Matt's cousin) was my grandfather. To make things confusing, after John Leidl's first wife, Elizabeth (Reinhofer) died, Elizabeth Fix's mother (your great-grandmother) came to Leipzig for a visit. She was a widow, and it turns out eventually married John Leidl. So, John Leidl's second wife was actually his nephew (Matt Leidl's) mother-in-law. I hope this wasn't too confusing. I have more information, if you're interested. I'd really like to find out who John Leidl's parents were. They were from Bubbendorf (Bubbendarf), a small town in Austraia, near the Hungarian border.

I am responding to your inquiry about the Leidly family. My great grandfather was a John Leidl. He and his family immigrated from Europe to North Dakota, Fingal I believe. They went to the Leipzig district. My grandfather was Matt Leidl. He had a brother named Frank. My grandmother's name was Elizabeth Fix. I could try to find out more information of what you ask. Maybe we are related?!

Re: Leidl, Germin, Reinhofer
Are these Leidl's any relation to Rosina (Ressinger) Leidel who married Lorence Leidel (children: Lorence, Rosina, Kathryn, Elizabeth, & Paul 1861)? I believe that they may have been from Bikács or Györköny (Tolna County) in Hungary. Their son Paul Leidel then married Kathryn Sebeck in 1883. Thank you so much, Caroline

Hi Danielle, Hopefully Barry and the others check these old posts, but in the meantime I'll give you some on-line history books to check out. http://www.ourroots.ca/e/ If you do a Leidl search 9 books will show up and when you open them you can click on the page numbers. I found some of what Barry mentioned, but nothing about your part. Butch (board volunteer)

Hi, Some information, you might be interested in: Johann Leidl, also known as John (1859-1955 ) was born in Bubendorf, Austria to Johann (also) Leidl and Josefe Schnabl, probably Josephine. He married Elisabeth Reinhofer (1860-1916) in 1877. They emigrated to the US in the early 1880s, and then to Canada. They had 7 children, one of whom was Rosa, your great-grandmother. and one whom was my grandfather. Two of the sons married 2 Germin (also known as Germain) sisters. Lore tells me it was a double wedding. Not sure about that. Johann married the widow, Barbara Fix (née Ochs) around 1919. She died in 1929. He did not marry again.
