Looking for book "Up to Now" written by the Bruno History Book Committee in 1984.

Interested in reference to Onufry DIDYK who died there around 1916.

Any help in finding would be appreciated.

Thanks,
RONC

Thanks for your response.

He would have come to the area after 1911 from Montreal where I have him and his brother, John. They were listed as YIDICK not DIDYK in the 1911 Census. His birth was June 1879 and He came from Galicia in 1910. John moved to Cudworth after 1913 but immigrated earlier.

Given name Onufry/Onofry is Humphrey if that helps. I found Bruno as he is buried in the Bruno Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic cemetery but death certificate doesn't list a location.

That's all I have.

Thanks,
RONC

My great grandparents Mike and Eva settled in Bruno Saskatchewan. Family Name is "Mikituk", possible that it was originally "Mykytiuk" in the Ukraine. They had 11 children.Their oldest son John lived on the farm with them. My grandmother was also "Eva" like her mother. I am wondering if the Bruno History book may have some information regarding what part of the Ukraine they came from, or when they arrived here. I appreciate any assistance you may be able to provide, and thank you for your time to reply.

@ atillathegray,

They are not listed in the index as having a submitted family history, but I did see these names included at the beginning of the book:

Original Homesteaders (there is a whole page of names)

"The following article was taken from an issue of The New Banner dated 1955, Saskatchewan"s Golden Jubilee Year.

Here is a list of original homesteaders, who made Bruno their trading and mail center.

....Nick MITUICK, Mike MIKITUICK, Fred MIKITUIK...."

I will flip through the book today and see if there is anything else.

The first church was constructed by the founding members in 1909 on a 3 acre site four miles east of Bruno. Construction was carried out by all members of the parish; the men prepared the logs and constructed the building; the women plastered the interior and exterior with clay.

Page 124 - Ukrainian settlement in this area began in 1903 predominately from the Borshchiv county. The founding members of the parish (above) were: ....... Nykola MYKYTIUK, Domytro MYKYTIUK (and others).

I can see that this wasn't an easy request from me. Thank you so much for your time to read through for this information. I believe that Nick Myietiuk was most likely my great grandfather's brother. The page 124 entry pertaining to Borshchiv is what I have been searching for. Hopefully this wil be enough to find information from the Ukraine. Since I posted this, I also found both of them on the 1916 census and then the 1911 census with mispelled surname. This has been the biggest challenge as their name has changed in almost every record. Your link to Nick helped me find the land grant application, and then I was able to find them on the census. This confirmed they were farming the same land- Nick in 1902, and Mike in 1907. Once again thanks so much for your help in fitting another piece into my family puzzle!

Hi, You now know where in Ukraine the family came from
Have you searched for Naturalization papers?
They may show some personal information
Name: Date and Place of Birth. [on some show actual place name of the city/town/village.
Names of Parents including maiden name of the mother.
Port and Date of Departure - Port and Date of Arrival.
Name of Passenger ship.
Passenger list - may show other family members also aboard.

I found a bio for Mike Mikituk in the Elstow history book on-line. http://www.ourroots.ca/e/toc.aspx?id=2720 It starts on page 274. It says he was from Bruno, but doesn't mention his parents. Butch

@ Sstranger1 Thank you for the suggestions. I haven't been successful with exhaustive passenger list searches, and the Canadian archives advise the naturalization records for this time period were destroyed. Apparently there is a cardex record with "nominal information" They don't make it sound like these records hold anything very promising compared to the original records. I suspect I won't get much more than I now have from the census. Still considering this option though.

@japeterson - I had found your reference for Mike Mikituk ( great uncle) online and was disappointed he didn't mention where they were from. Thank you for the reference.
