Classification: Deed
Surnames: Bendzara, Benzara, Bendzera, Benzera, Bugoski, Didur, Gedir or Gedyr, Schufman, Skarra, Serblowski, Sreblowski, Sorokowski, Srokowski, Swidzinski, Yurkowski
My wife has family ancestors who came from Borschiw or Borshchiv and Peremilow regions of Western Ukraine.

They relocated to Portage La Prairie, Manitoba, Canada from about 1902 to 1906 and then they moved on to the Saskatoon area in Saskatchewan in about 1910.

Some of the family surnames included are Bendzera or Benzera, Bendzara or Benzara, Bugoski, Didur, Gedir or Gedyr and Skarra; as well as, Schufman, Serblowski, Sreblowski, Sorokowski, Srokowski, Swidzinski, Yurkowski.

Please feel free to contact me if you feel we might have some connections. What really caught my attention with your post was the name Fedir is close to the name Gedir and Mary Gedir married Joseph Skarra.

You can learn more about the Gedir and Skarra families at this website created by Jay Schufman: http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&...

Subject: Re: Didur families of Ukraine>Manitoba>Saskatchewan
Surnames: Didur, Gedir, Bendzara, Benzara, Bendzera, Bugoski, Skarra, Serblowski, Sorokowski, Swidzinski

My wife had 3 great uncles and her grandfather who were all brothers named Didur but when her grandfather arrived in Portage La Prairie, MB in 1902; his name was changed or interpretted to Gedir. A brief outline of this Didur - Gedir family is listed below.

Prokop DIDUR (1872 - 1946) b: 1872 in Peremilow, Chortoskow, Galicia near Tamopol, Ukraine d: March 1946 in Peremilow, Chortoskow, Galicia near Tamopol, Ukraine.
Prokop has descendants who are still living in Saskatchewan, Ontario and the Ukraine.

Anges or Angus GEDIR or Enges GEDYR (1878 - 1941) b. 31 Jan 1878 in Peremilow, Austria d. 3 Sep 1941 &.bp. Peterson, SK Angus has many descendants who are still living in Saskatchewan and Ontario.

Leon DIDUR b. He was born near Tamopol, Ukraine and he died somewhere in Manitoba where some of his descendants are still living there.

Paul DIDUR b. He lived & died near Tamopol, Ukraine where some of his descendants are still living there.

The following DIDUR family members were granted land in Western Canada as recorded below:

Perhaps your great grandmother Barbara Didur who married Ignatius (Hnatt) Muzyka (1868 - 1952); and her 3 brothers, John, Alex and Metro Didur are related to Prokop, Leon & Paul Didur and our Angus Didur - Gedir ??

Did your great uncles John, Alex and Metro Didur emigrate to Canada with their sister Barbara Didur ??

We look forward to corresponding with all of the ancestors and descendents of all of the related family surnames listed above anytime.

I live north of Saskatoon, in a predominantly Ukrainian area and have some of the names you list, in my research.

The only reference I have to Skarra is - Nicholas Skarra who m. Phyllis Winiski (b. 1920). Phyllis is the d/o Steve Winiski & Kasia "Katie" Bodnar.

********
Anton Sorokowski (1878-July 1, 1944) m. Justina Benzero (d. Feb 11, 1983) and they had 15 children that I am aware of. I recently had the pleasure of meeting one of the daughters. Anton, one son and 2 granddaughters are buried in a cemetery just down the road from me, and other family members are in the general vicinity.

********
I have not compiled a family listing, as of yet, and the Swidzinski information is quite scattered. However I do have a listing for: Lucas Swidzinski & Maria Dowanowski - their daughter Josephine m. John Turchyniak. And a listing for Michail Swidzinski & Anna (maiden name unknown)- their daughter Mary (b. 1905) m. Isadore Lozinsky. ********

I have located birth information for Joseph Swidzynski b. Aug 6, 1906, the s/o Michael Swidzynski & Joanna Benzara, but have not been able to confirm if Joanna is a sister to Justina who m. Anton Sorokowski. Nor can I confirm if Joanna is in fact "Anna" (maiden name unknown) with husband Michail and daughter Mary. ********

I also have a listing for:
John Swidzinski (Aug 26, 1901-1984) m. Anna Boychuk (Feb 12, 1912-2001)m. Oct 30, 1927. Anna Boychuk is the d/o Katherine (nee Elkiw) Boychuk. AND Annie Swidzinski (d. May 12, 1983)m. Peter Kaminsky (June 30, 1905-March 12, 1989). According to Peter's obituary, he was born in Borschiv, Ukraine and later came to Canada to Meacham, SK. He married Anne in 1929 and farmed in Elstow. In 1941 they moved to Aberdeen, where they farmed until 1958, then moved to Saskatoon.

********
If you find any of this fits in with the families you are researching, please me know. I would be more than willing to share what I have, if it is useful to you. I apologize for the run together format, I can't seem to get it to space properly. ********

THAT is amazing! Where did you find this western land grants for Saskatchwan?! I am great grandson to Polikarp Serblowski. Interesting the government spelt the name incorrectly they spelt it as Sreblowski.
Did you know any of the Serblowski family or Reineke family that lived around Bruno and Carmel in Saskatchwan?
Interestingly I found out Serblowski over in Poland was Zgrzeblowski.

Hope to hear back from you.

Hi There. I came across this post. I am currently looking for relatives. My maiden name Swidzinski/Swidzinsky. I am in Saskatoon, Sk. My father Carl had 2 brothers. His parents were Peter and Helen. Peters parents were Michael and Joanna. They had land in Aberdeen, Sk. I would love an email to chit chat more about connections. I seem to be the only one here. I have no one left alive here to get info from.

Possibly..hard to say..I know much more about my mothers side than fathers. This is why I am currently on a massive search. Im not sure about my grandmothers maiden name, or where exactly my grandfatehr came from. So Im stuck, now that they are gone. If you can check out my pics and info, Im on a free trail so I cant view anything at the moment. All I know is that they had some land where specified past down to my grandfather Peter. His parents were Johanna/Michael..Not sure of Johannas maiden name either..Grr frustrating..lol
