Hi! My great-grandfather was a Frank Hurlbert, married to Ila Woods. His son, Herman, my grandfather, lived in Winner, SD and had 2 sons, Harold Duane (my dad) and Billy Neal. I don't know if this is the same line, but for further reference there are several families of Hurlberts in Clark, SD, and my grandfathers brothers and sisters live in various places, such as Hemet, CA and Boca Raton, Fla. Hope this helps!!

Hi!- Yes Herman is my Dad Verns brother. I am accumulating
as much on the family as I can -Perhaps you would like to
add some info for us on your family.
I am currently trying to get Ilas birth certificate but have not
had a bit of luck -I do not think she was born under the name
Ila Isabelle Wood-but instead under her mothers maiden name. Ila Isabelle Gorman possibly in Bad Axe Michigan.
When we went to the courthouse and looked up the births of her kids there was a different name listed by the midwife
and her age was all distorted. She must have given the information while she was in labor, because it was all different.
You might go look it up yourself and see what you think.
I have just made contact with Ilas grandmothers descendants
they are named Emarilla Westover Gorman married to
Thomas Gorman they lived in Ainsworth Nebraska and are
buried in the cemetery along with Emarillas Parents
James E. Westover and Emaline BArnes Westover.
I would be happy to e-mail you the files on the Hurlberts and
Westovers. The Westovers came from Quebec CAnada
and settled into Michigan where Ilas own mother Maggie
Gorman married James wood. They lived in Cheboygan for
about 20 years . Since Ila lived with her grandparents in
Nebraska from the time she was 6 till she got married in 1911
I now believe she was born out of wedlock.
Maggie and James married in 1895 -I have their certificate. but Ila was born Nov 1893 acording to the 1900 census for
Cheboygan.
Your not the gal that was living in Herman and Ethlys house
are you? If So then I met you a couple years ago when we
passed thru there. We stopped and saw Ethyl at the nursing
home. Thanks for writing and standby for lots more info.

Hi Linda...I have been trying to find you for the last few years
If You are the Linda who sent my father VERN Hurlbert
all the information on the Hurlberts going back to Lucius Henry Hurlbert and Eliza Darrah ....who Married March 25, 1840 Clinton N.Y.
She born FEb 26, 1818 Dunham Quebec, Canada died May 25, 1895
Lucius Henry born Jan 9, 1817 Vermont died May 30, 1893.
I just wanted to THANK YOU for all the information.......
and i could never find you again. Yes i found Bud. By
tracking down a book he wrote.........and he sent me his
family tree from canada.
His father was the brother to my grandfather FRANK
Please keep in touch..... i have some other questions..
I have been trying to find a birth certificate for Franks wife
Ila Isabell Wood born Nov 17, or 18th in 1893 or 1894 in Michigan. But have not had any luck getting her birth certificate. My father is still living...and I would like to find
her birth certificate as a surprize to him.. She was not raised by her family and i did find a marriage record for her mother
Maggie Gorman......and James Wood dated 1895
so perhaps she was born out of wedlock.. Anyway.
Thank you again for all your hard work on the Hurlbert family tree...

Hi, Yes I am the same Linda. I moved to Montana for our retirement home. Rick is still working in Alaska for awhile. He says he sees your Dad at the airport once in awhile. I found the father of our Lucius, who married Eliza Darrah. He is Lucius, of course, Hurlbert, born 5 May 1790. Married Salomia (Susan) Davis born April 1801. Our Lucius 1817 was the first born. 1817 Lucius died in Nodaway County, Missouri about 1899.
I have some of the other children from 1790 Lucius, but I'm stuck now, as he was adopted by an uncle Jacob Southwell, a maker of iron, his mother died young and doesn't say anything about the father. I am supposing the mother's maiden name was Southwell. I will stay on the lookout for your names you are looking for.Linda

I don't think it is the same Frank Leroy Hurlbert who is my grandfather, but my great grandfather Frank Leroy Hurlbert was from Canada and Nebraska. He married an Ila Wood, and they lived in South Dakota. I'm not sure if he had siblings or, if he did, who they were. I'll do some research and see if I can't figure out if your grandfather and mine are the same.
