Prince Albert TB Sanitarium
Hi, Does anyone know where I could get the medical records for the TB Sanitarium . My grandfather Walter Franz died there on 6 Jan 1937. I have contacted several organizations.....Sask. Health, Sask. Lung, TB Control program, College of Physicans but nobody has any answers. Anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks for listening. Darlene in BC

I have had no luck either. Went through the city too. If you find out, please let me know. My dad stills lives in PA and can go and get the records for both of us.

Re: Prince Albert TB Sanitarium
Hi Carrie,
I still have not no luck finding where the medicals records have gone. My other thought was, when they closed the hospital patients that were still there would have had to be transferred to another medical facility along with their records. Is there a hospital close to where the Sanitarium was? It would be great if your dad could get the records.....if we could only find out where they are!!! Thanks, Darlene

Hi, When the TB Sanitarium closed as the TB hospital, it then became a home for the mentally disabled. Jim

Re: Prince Albert TB Sanitarium
Thanks Jim,
I am trying to find the 1937 medical records for the sanitarium. Someone must have them. I thought the Lung or TB Assoc. or the Gov't would have known but they don't.

Re: Prince Albert TB Sanitarium
I do not want to dash your hopes but I am a professional archivist and I can tell you for certain that in many hospitals etc. they simply got rid of their records (in SK and elsewhere). The Health Authority in Regina kept a lot of theirs but even St. Paul's in Saskatoon has no idea where their older patient files are.
Sad isn't it. Even PA has no idea where surviving records from St. Patrick's Orphanage may be.

Re: Prince Albert TB Sanitarium
Carrie,
Thank you very much for sharing your experience. Yes, it is very sad that records are destroyed. I am more surprised that the Orphanage's records are missing......very sad for the people who are trying to find their family.

Re: Prince Albert TB Sanitarium
Darlene : Did you ever have any luck finding medical records for the T.B. Sanitarium at Pr.Albert ? I am looking for medical records of T.B. San. at Tranquille{ Kamloops} B.C. as my aunt Kathleen McNeilly was there in the late 1930' - -early 40's . She passed away in Pr. George, B.C. , her home town in 1941 .Always searching to what happened to her husband, Jim McNeilly and 4 children , my cousins . They are in their late 60's , I think. My aunt's maiden name was Ewanyshyn , she was the daughter of Roman and Pauline Ewanyshyn from the Rossburn area in Manitoba.

Re: Prince Albert TB Sanitarium
Hi Pauline, No, I did not received any on the TB Sanitarium. I was told from another member that lots of records from institutions were not kept. I checked the BC Vitals and there were 19 hits for McNeilly....one James Hugh McNeilly. Some may be your cousins which would give you an indication where they were living at the time. Also 2 hits for Ewanyshyn...one in Kamloops. http://search.bcarchives.gov.bc.ca/sn-AB2FCA/gbsearch/Births...Good luck Darlene
