Hi, What time frame are you researching ? When was Mary/ Marie MISTAPAW/ VANDELL/ VanDINE/ VANDINE born. Where did she settle.? husbands given name etc
Is she still living ? - if not When did she pass away. There may be an Obituary - that may show names and locations of family members / connected families - at the time.

thank you for the suggestions: here is what I know. Mary(Marie) was born April 7, 1891,or 1890 or 1892 in sandy lake reserve Saskatchewan Canada or Mt Nebo Saskatchewan or another family member said Big River Reserve Saskatchewan Canada. She passed away November 21, 1949 and is buried along side of her husband at the Hebert memorial by Shipman Saskatchewan, Canada. She married a Dutch game warden/forest ranger by the name of John Archibald Vandine or VanDine, or Van Dyne or VanDuyn. He was born in New Brunswick Canada July 4, 1867. Died August 5, 1941 and buried next to Mary. They had 4 sons Charles Marshall , Frank Tapley, James William, & George Dow (Douwe) also 4 daughters Alice, Christina, Gertrude and Lillian Dayton. Mary was baptized April 28, 1907 sponsors John Tawapetayweyen and Mary Cook. They then married April 29, 1907 witness were l. Ahenakew and Mary Cook. then the Rev Edward Cook married them in a Presbyterian church possibly on sandy lake reserve. Mary Mistapaw was probably a Cree . Her mothers last name may have been Opinootaheuasoe born 1870. She was first married to a man last name Mistapaw and they had only Mary. then her Mom remarried a man with last name Vandell or Vandel or Vandale. they had 6 more children. We are trying to find out any information we can on the Mistapaw , Vandale(Vandell or Vandel) and also Opinootaheuasoe last names. I suspect there is little written records of these Crew /metis families. If any one can help us please contact us. Thanks.

Search GOOGLE using MISTAPAW and check out the MISTAPEU family tree. It has Mary Verginia Mistapaw Vandal ,Vandell listed and says she was born at Sandy Lake. I'm inclined to go with Vandal as there were some in the area. Butch

I think I found them in the 1911 census for Prince Albert near Big River as Van Dine. They are listed as Archibald, Marie, Charles and Frank. I checked the original sheet by using "split view" and all are listed as French Canadian and dates of birth are not exact, but thats normal for 1911. http://automatedgenealogy.com/index.html Butch

Hi - I am the granddaughter of Frank Tapley VanDine. My mom remembers her grandmother Mary. Her aunt Alice is still alive and living near Shipman, where the family settled. I have the baptismal and marriage records showing the information you have. Even when they were young, my mother said they didn't acknowledge their First Nations heritage - hence, I believe, the story that they were French Canadians (a little like the Conehead family on SNL?) I am still searching for Mary and her family - I'm going to see if there are censuses of the Ahtahkakoop reserve - sometimes censuses were done by churches or other groups. I'll keep you posted. I have a picture of Mary and her family.
