Not really a reply but other information that should be here. Moses received two parcels of land: 1: NE 2 33 15 W3 and 2: NW 2 33 15 W3 as Moses Harry Beutler. I believe that this is in the RM of Marriott. He was Hebrew.

Moses Henry Butler ... or Morris Harry Beutler ... married Rebecca [unknown] about 1916. I understand that she had a son and died shortly after. Moses sent to England for his second cousin Sophie to come out to marry him, which she did in 1921. I would like to find what Rebecca's surname is and where she is buried. The name of that son would also be helpful.

Looking for any information for my g-uncle Charles Keith Arthur son of Andrew & Sarah Arthur from Auburn Ontario.
Charles married Isabella Jackson and the children were Kate Roberston, Mary, Francis Ellen(Fanny), Margaret Ann, Sarah and Andrew. Have the childrens information that stayed in Ont + Andrew.
Charles moved from Muskoka/Parry Sound region to Prairedaley, Kindersley SK area sometime between 1901 & 1911 per Census records & see his land records on the Homestead Index.
His son Andrew married Rosalia Frances Gertrude Hampel in 1914. They had a son named Henry Jackson Arthur. Residence 1916 Census was Prairedaley, Kindersley.
Also possible that Charles brother Robert Arthur followed them out west as well.
It is unclear whether he kept in touch with his parents or siblings after moving to SK.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

I'm seeking information on my Great-Grandmother Pearl Joyce Hadwen Butt born around 1895 in Vaughan, Ontario but resided in Saskatchewan since around 1907.

She married John H. Butt by 1916 and still lived in Saskatchewan, it is also possible that she died there around the year 1951. Any information that can be provided to me in this query would be greatly appreciated.

Information on John H. Butt would also help. He had 2 children with an unknown (as of yet) woman, George Butt and Ruth Butt. He also had 3 children with Pearl Hadwen Butt.

Thanks so much the first book about the McBains is really helpful - they are all my family - the other book was about a Holmes that probably was related to my family - as they all came from same part of Quebec and were Irish - I will have to check that part out more - I know that my Holmes family show up on 1916 census for Kindersley.

What a great person you are to find these things - it opens so many more doors.

Found a couple of on-line history books with Holmes and McBain. Looks like McBains originally settled near Oxbow. http://www.ourroots.ca/e/toc.aspx?id=6256 Do a McBain search in that one and click on page 799 And do a Holmes search in this one. Flaxcomb is near Kindersley. http://www.ourroots.ca/e/toc.aspx?id=6215 Bio is on page 325. Let me know if it helps.
Time frame would be early 1900's as I know that my great grandparents show up on prairie census of 1916 along with some of the children - My grandfather Joseph Robert Holmes came from Quebec with his parents and married my grandmother Minnie McBain around 1915 or 1916. I do not know if Dorothy Holmes married to Jack Kelliher actually was named Florence Andora Holmes as that name shows on census and not Dorothy.

Hi I am a greatgranddaughter of John T Holmes and William Walter McBain who at one time lived in Kindersley - some of the McBains were Jim McBain and Stan McBain. What I need to know is that one of John Holmes daughter's was married to a Harvey Hause and another to a Jack Kelliher. Most of the other McBains and Holmes I have found info about like of course grandpa Joseph Robert Holmes and grandma Minnie McBain - I am trying to find out more about when some of them were born and when they may have died

Re: Stricker and Hilderman in Leader, Saskatchewan

the info you refer to in Pages of the Past, pg 417:
Paragraphs submitted by Mrs. Freida Frey, granddaughter, based on her memories of the family.

The Henry Stricker Family

Henry Stricker was born in Russia in 1856. Mary Elizabeth (Sader) Stricker was born in Russia also in 1856. They came to Canada in 1905, landing in Montreal and coming west to Winnipeg and then a few years later to the Cypress Hills area in Southern Saskatchewan and Alberta. When they came to Leader it was still called Prussia. Many families settled or homesteaded just west of Leader in the sandhills, close to the river banks. Later the Stricker family bought land Southwest of Leader, about 7 miles or so.

Their family consisted of:
Charlotte (or Lotty as she was known) who later became Mrs. Henry Kiltau.
Alex Stricker - later moved to Portland, Oregon.
Fred Stricker - also moved to Portland.
Mary - who became Mrs. Henry Kraus.
Of the above families, all are deceased except Mrs. Mary Kraus who presently resides in the Garden Apartments in Medicine Hat.

Henry Stricker passed away in Medicine Hat where he and his wife had retired to in the late 1920's. His wife, Mary Elizabeth, passed away in 1945 in Leader where she lived with her daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Henry Kraus. As for Charlotte, Alex, and Fred Stricker, they passed away in the 1950's, I believe, in Portland, Oregon. Their families are presently living about the USA and B.C.

The Henry Kraus family (Mary Stricker) include:
Mrs. Emma Todd, Vancouver BC; Mrs. Martha Krausher, Lethbridge; Mrs. Frieda Frey, Medicine Hat; Mrs. Violet Lust, Victoria BC.

A candid photo of Henry and Mary Elizabeth accompanied this article.

--------------
THE HENRY KILTAU STORY - pg 296
by Katherine Temple

Henry and Charlotte Kiltau immigrated from Russia with two young children in approximately 1899, first settling in Arcola, Saskatchewan*, and then moving on to North Battleford. They left North Battleford with 5 young children traveling by train to Maple Creek. From Maple Creek to Happyland, the trip was made by covered wagon carrying all their worldly possessions, including one cow tied to the back of the wagon. The children would take turns walking behind the cow, persuading her to continue on this journey. After traveling so many miles the Kiltau family by-passed their homestead and ran out of bread all at the same time. Their first stop was at one of their new neighbours, who had just finished baking bread and was only too happy to share it and also give directions. On their new homestead, four miles south of Leader, seven more children were born. One of the twins, Charlotte**, died when only 5 years old after contracting measles. On Nov 1, 1919 two of their children were married in a double ceremony. (some detail omitted) Henry and Charlotte left Leader approx. 1922 with some of their younger children and relocated in Yakima, Wash., where they both passed away in the mid 1950's.

a photo accompanied this article

* this could be why Nova Scotia arrival papers for Susanna (Alexander too?) showed Arcola, SK as the destination
** author may be mistaken about the girl's name
-------------

LUDWIG KILTHAU SR. -- pg 197
by Violet Dieno

My dad married in Russia to Christina Hessler and they had two children, my sister Molly and brother, Conrad. He decided to immigrate to Canada. He came over from Russia in the early years and settled in Winnipeg. He came alone and had to work hard at many jobs, mostly digging sewers so he could make enough money to bring his family to Canada. When the family finally did arrive, they all lived in Winnipeg for some time and that is where my brother, Louie, was born.

In 1915, they decided to come west. They arrived here by train and were taken to the farm of my dad's uncle Henry Kilthau's. Dad worked for his uncle for a few years and in 1923 HE BOUGHT ALEX STRICKER's FARM about five miles south west of Leader....

there is more to this story / abbreviated here
a photograph accompanied this article

----------------
additional facts/corrections from my own research:
Charlotte Stricker Kiltau d. abt 1955 in Yakima, Washington. She and Henry had 13 children, 12 survived to adulthood. Charlotte became a US citizen June 1, 1937 at Yakima. Charlotte & Henry remained close to her brother Alexander's family; their daughter Pauline Kiltau Kahm remained close to her first cousins Mary and Eva Stricker; I have a photo fo Eva and Pauline, plus Pauline's wedding portrait--from my grandmother Mary's album.

-------

Q: Can you confirm that Fred Stricker, son of Henry and Mary Elizabeth (Sader) Stricker, is or is not the Fred Stricker who married Elizabeth "Lizzie" Haun? There's a portrait of "Lizzie" and her husband Fred online, and he very closely resembles Alexander, Henry & Mary Elizabeth's son...

email me off line to discuss further. Do you still have my email? Is yours still at bresnan.net ?
The last name was originally Knutson, but Knudt changed to Aldahl betwn 1880-1885, probably due to a lot of Knutson's in the area.
Parents of Knudt J.
A friend told me about this site and my whole reason was to find info on my grandfather as my mother had info that she wanted to be research. I came across this message board and your info matched my info. First lets start with my mother's name: Lynne Nadon Maiden name (Davis). Her father was Burton Arnold Davis and or Bertrum Arnold Davis born approx. 1915/1916. His father was Charles Edgar Davis and mother was Ella May Davis maiden name(brown)...I think somewhere the connection is and wondering if at all you know or knew my mother Lynne as we can kinda estimate all of which can take place.
