Got a couple of emails from a lady in Sweden, looking for info on her uncle. She found his burial site (Nut Lake Church- Rose Valley, Sask) from a cemetery list that I had submitted several years ago
First email:
“I found my uncle´s grave. His name was Hilding Lund and he died in 1933.
It is a big mystery in the family what killed him. Disease, accident or
what? My father who was in Chicago at the time of Hilding´s death never
want to speak about it, but I have heard that he was shot. Is there a
way to find out. My father later returned to Sweden.”
Second email”
“Yes Hilding was my fathers brother. Hilding came to US in 1927 and
settled in Chicago and my father came in 1928. It was hard times and
difficult to find jobs. Perhaps this is why Hilding decided to try his
luck in Canada while my father stayed in US.
The story in the family is like this: Hilding was involved in smuggling
alcohol from Canada to US. Alcohol was not allowed in US but Canada had
plenty of it. He was caught by RCMP and shot. I dont know if this is
true and a matter of fact it doesn´t is important. Just iteresting to
know. Since he is buried in Nut Lake Cemetery he must have been living
around that area. Is there dezth records for him?”
Obit:
”The many friends of Mr Hilding Lundh will be sorry to learn of his death, which occured following an operation.
For the past two years he made his home with Mr and Mrs S Gjerde. and he will be grately missed by his many friends. He leaves to mourn a brother in US and ........er in Sweden. Pall-bearers were ,
Messdrs Odin Lysager Leo Ross, Norman Dal, Sather Ingvald. Hage Olgar Gjerde. The funeral ws held from the Nut Lake Lutheran Church. Rev.Aandahl officiating”
I haven’t found anything in either the Rose Valley or Archerwill history books. Maybe, some one out there remembers hearing of this man.
