I'm looking for some information pertaining to my great grandmother, Ida Melby (later Holter). I know she lived in/around Naicam/Archerwill area of SK and was involved with a man named Mulrodd or Molrudd or something similar around the early 1900's and had a daughter with him. I haven't been able to find anything about him or even a proper spelling of the last name, wondering if anyone in the area might know of anything about the Molrud/Mulrodd last name?

Thanks!

Hi Ruth, Do a search in the " Google News" site I sent on the other board. Use Quantrill Ontario Carnduff and a family tree will show up. Then check out this memorial. http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=93... Butch

I believe she and the others I've mentioned are all from Pidverbtsi and are closely related. SAMBORSKI(Y)is rather common name in the Ukraine. Hopefully I'll make contact with someone in the Ukraine to help work through this.

RONC

Dear jilajay2007!

Thank you very much for your messages from today!

Yes, most of what you sent me applies to "my" Albert Torgerson, and just yesterday I received a transcript of the Hawarden book which tells us that Dr. Albert Torgerson died in 1923 (rather than 1926) and that he as buried in the Hawarden cemetery!

So then there is a question whether records are available, for example at the Hawarden town office, to give an exact date of Albert's death?

Thanks again for your great assistance!

Very sincerely yours,

Lars E.
One of the older living DIDYK went to his funeral in PA. She tells us that Kataryna is buried there also. No proof!!!

Talked with Terry and have viewed the videos more than once with no luck and Terry doesn't remember a DIDYK but it could have been in Cyrillic. I stopped videos to ID the Cyrillic but didn't find it. These are some of the most secretive people I've ever looked into. I found to younger sons of John and Kataryna that the ones I'm dealing with didn't know about. Mary's obit mentioned and that was first sight of them. Found one in Lethbridge and the other went to Ontario and haven't located him yet.

RONC

I will re-post the 1966 Pauline PODOLESKI (nee DIDYK) obit from this thread, as it has the names of the children of John and Kataryna DIDYK - Annie GOON, Mary SABADASH, Pete DIDYK (Toronto), Fred DIDYK (Lethbridge).

http://boards.ancestry.ca/localities.northam.canada.saskatch...

Here is the 1973 obit for Nick SABADASH, husband of Mary DIDYK. I cannot find a date of death (other than 1969) or an obit for her.

I am not from this area, so I am guessing this is the Transfiguration Cemetery mentioned in Nick's obit.

http://www.skeparchy.org/eparchy-church/eparchy-of-saskatoon...

The John Didyk who died in 1945 is buried in the South Hill Community Cemetery in Prince Albert. I emailed the cemetery and was told he was buried February 2, 1945 and his plot number is 17-B-2-N.5. I was not able to find an obit for him or his wife.

There just could be some information available from/through Prince Albert re the Samborski name. Merve Samborski was a radio announcer on CKBI radio, Prince Albert. I don't know whether he also was on TV, but I believe that he was in the early days of TV. - I checked with my wife just now and she confirms that Merve had a good voice and was on TV.
You might get some info from CTV Prince Albert 306-922-6066. There is a genealogy group in Prince Albert but I do not have a contact name or number, probably could get that for you if you would like to contact them. Also if you go to Archives Canada, there were at least 6 homesteads taken out by Samborski's; Michal, Teodor and Mike. There are no Samborski's in the Prince Albert City phone book listings at present.I will try to assist if you need more help. I do a lot of genealogy research and helping each other can pay great dividends.

Thanks for volunteering help.

The surname is DIDYK and they moved to the Cudworth area some time after 1916 as not shown in that Census. Had them in Montreal in 1911. I'm helping living relatives who live in SK and AB but know little of family. John (Ivan) was born in the Ukraine abt 1865 and Kataryna, nee SAMBORSKI, abt 1883. Immigrated around 1909 but haven't found passage as docs not indexed. I believe that Kataryna is related to the bunch of SAMBORSKI around Cudworth and have been chasing that line also.

I have John's death date of 1945, Prince Albert, and Kataryna in 1922, Cudworth. Nothing on their children from that area other than her probate info.

We've pretty well scoured the grave info even to the point of viewing all of the video of graves around the Cudworth area. Still see Cyrillic letters in my dreams and trying to decode - not translate - to Roman alphabet.

They are not listed in the area books either which is not surprising as I think they all were gone from there just after John's death.

I chase any ideas you have.

Thanks,
RONC

What really frustrates with the ISC/eHealth is that they told me that everything was in a database for internal use and I could pay them $25 to do the search over a three year period for one person. ISC/eHealth is a non-profit government company!!! Bet the salaries are outrageous for the bosses. Probably some legislator's kin.

What we need is for someone locally to use the province's Freedom of Information law to force them to make it available.

I'm only interested in the years that are missing not those covered by rules related to age.

Most US states are the same as SK in not making the info available.

I'm in Texas and everything is available and is systematically updated. My grandkids 5 and 8 are both listed in the online info.

RONC

Vital stats - BMDs - are NOT a Federal govt issue, otherwise how do you explain the wealth of info online in BC compared to nothing in Ontario?

Do you really think the govt cares about genealogists? And not to offend my American friends, but do you REALLY think any Canadian provincial govt cares about genealogists in the US who want FREE online data? (Again, BC is the exception).

All they have to say is "cutbacks", "we don't have the manpower", "there are more important issues to spend money on", "privacy concerns", or the most frightening "I suppose we could do it, IF WE RAISE YOUR TAXES." That usually shuts people up.

As far as I can see, there is no mandate, no policy, no legal obligation and no incentive for the provincial govts to put vital stats online for free use.

It would be great for genealogists, but don't hold your breath.
This is a Canadian Federal Government policy. It is very frustrating that the USA now has 1940 censuses and much more info available. I live in Canada and think it's very sad that Genealogists have to research very outdated data.
There are however some other sources available if one has familiarity with certain 'books' and specific areas of interest. Also Find A Grave is a very good source if one can determine what Cemetery to search. I am entering many Family and friends on F A G and others are also doing so.
