Re: Maple Creek Cemetery Names & Stories
So sorry to jump in on your conversation here but I'm wondering if there is any mention of the Beattie family in your book? My gg grandparents Thomas and Elizabeth are burried in Maple Creek.

Re: Maple Creek Cemetery Names & Stories
I looked in the booklet, "Our Pioneers" and did find a John A. Beattie who came from Ontario to Maple Creek, Sask. then fought in World War I and another John L. Beattie who married Fanny Small in 1902 in Maple Creek. Your Thomas Beattie would have lived much earlier than these Beatties who are mentioned in the booklet. I see no mention of any Elizabeth Beattie.

Re: Maple Creek Cemetery Names & Stories
Oh thank you! John L Beattie is my uncle, Thomas and Elizabeth were his parents. The family came over from Scotland. I was hoping to find something on my grandpa Bill, he was apart of the Can Light Horse in ww1. Would you be able to send me what it says about Uncle John?

Re: Maple Creek Cemetery Names & Stories
Sure! "Our Pioneers" was first published by the South Western Saskatchewan Oldtimers' Association in 1974 and has had a total of 5 printing dates so far. Here is the article in this booklet regarding John L. Beattie:
Mr. J. L. Beattie was a sheep rancher at the west end of Crane Lake. Fanny Small was born in Scotland. Came to Canada with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Alex Small in 1884. As a child she lived in Maple Creek area, Cypress Hills and Medicine Hat.
Mr. and Mrs. Beattie were married in 1902 in the stone Presbyterian church at Maple Creek. They lived on their Crane Lake ranch for 25 years. Their hospitality was extended to all who passed that way. They had 2 sons, Thomas and Stewart and a daughter Mrs. D. E. Brown.
