Brownell family in Battleford Saskatchewan aft 1908

I have traced a family of George Washington Brownell b 1859 Adams, Jefferson Co, NY and his wife, Lula/Lulu Lowe b 1879 WI who migrated from Todd Co, MN to Battleford, Saskatchewan about 1908. On the 1911 census they have the following children with them:
-Lawrence R b Apr 1899 MN
-Ralph L b Oct 1893 MN
-Esther E b Sep 1894 MN
-Gerald W b Jan 1903 MN
-Ernest E b Jun 1909 Saskatchewan, Canada

I believe that George W Brownell was the son of Hiram/Hirum Brownell b 1826 NY and Evaline Thomas abt 1835 NY who migrated to Lincoln Co MN.

I have more info on the ancestors of Hirum/Hiram to share. I would like to know when and where George died. Also if there are any descendants still living in Saskatchwan?

Chris

I believe George Washington Brownell died April 6, 1938 but I
don't have the place at this time. Yes, you have the correct names for his parents.

Brownells

The Brownells you mention settled in a small rural school district in western Saskatchewan called Cosy Nook. It is between Waseca and Neilburg. Most of my father's and mother's family also settled there. I lived there until age 8, when we moved to British Columbia.

Ralph Brownell is an uncle by marriage to my maternal aunt Emma Bellamy. Emma died in 1941 and Ralph moved to B.C.and remarried. He died in 1991. His two daughers are still alive.

Gerald also moved moved to B.C. His two sons became my good friends. One is still alive.

If you can find the book "Preserving the Past," which gives the history of Cosy Nook and other school districts in the area, there are biographies of some of the Brownells.

Thank you for responding to my post. I will check online to see if I can find a copy of the book you mentioned.

I have a couple of Brownell family photos that I am happy to share with other relatives. I have one of Hirum's sister, Julia Brownell Speer, who was my gg grandmother. I also have a copy of a photo of another sibling, Courtland Brownell. I also have personally taken photographs of the family monument in Kelloggsville Monroe Cemetery, Ashtabula Co, OH of their parents, Jonathan and Azubah (Hicks) Brownell. There are some other unidentified photos that I suspect may be photos of the family of brother, Alvah Brownell, in Mower, MN. Please contact me via email if there is any interest in these photos.

I will pass your information on to the Brownells I know.

I have a copy of "Preserving the Past." There are about 8 pages of Brownell history. If you wish, I could scan the pages and email them to you.

Thank you for your kind offer, but I was able to find someone who had a copy and has sent me the pages. Very interesting reading about the pioneer days. I was struck by how matter of fact the different family members were about the extremes of weather, basic shelter, and hard work for meager returns. These were tough and resourceful people. I was able to glean a few details on names of spouses and the death dates and places for George W and Lula Brownell. Much of the info is about possible living family members so I will not add that to my records.

If any of the family is interested in the photos that I have, you can reach me at gardener_plus@yahoo.com That way I can send copies back to you.
