ANDREWS in Dudswell - 1800s
I am looking for any information on the ANDREWS families that resided in Dudswell during the 1840s. My gggrandmother was named Lydia ANDREWS and was shown as having come from Dudswell when she was married in Eaton in 1845, but I can find no record of her relation to the Dudswell ANDREWS families.

My ANDREWS connection is just north in Megantic County. My g-grandfather George F. ANDREWS was bron 2 July 1853 at Inverness, d. 7 Aug 1913 Charleston, VT. Moved to Vermont at age 21, circa 1874. Married in 1879 to Avis Lorea BROWN.
His father was Charles Lazarus ANDREWS b. 1827 in Sussex England moved to Canada when a young man or child, lived Inverness Township (Megantic County) d. 1890 Charleston, VT. Married Sarah SLATER (SLATTER?) who was b. 1821 in County Down, Ireland. d. 1885. Sarah Came to Canada c 1839. She married 1st to a FERGUSON and two children, Phoebe and Lizzie.
I don't know if Charles ANDREWS and Sarah SLATER had any other children except for George. Perhaps there is a connection with your Lydia.

Re: ANDREWS in Dudswell - 1800s
MOST OF THE ANDREWS IN DUDSWELL CAME FROM NORTHEAST U.S. AFTER REVOLUTIONARY WAR ABOUT 1801. 2ND GROUP ARRIVED IN 1840'S FROM EUROPE AND SETTLED(AT FIRST) AROUND LEEDS, LOWER IRELAND AND INVERNESS. LOOK UNDER AMOS ANDREWS FOR THE FIRST BUNCH.

Re: ANDREWS in Dudswell - 1800s
Amos Andrews born in 1733 in Wallingford, CT, USA was the grandfather of my great great grandmother Lydia Andrews. The line starts with a William that came to MA, USA, then on to New Haven, CT, then Wallingford, and then I think the line runs through VT, USA before they show up in the Eastern Townships. I'm trying to get a line on these guys that first arrived in Quebec. The one in between Amos and my great great grandfather was a Neus Andrews that died up there about 1846. I've found another Neus, son of this one, in the cemetery, but not much on the elder.

Re: ANDREWS in Dudswell - 1800s
i have lydia born may 23 1815, d of Neus Andrews & Cynthia Reed. She married William Saunders. That's all I have and no documentation. Children Annette Ellen, John , Cynthia Mary, William Scott, Albert Pope, Anthony Howard, Amos Walter, Clara Myrilla. Sorry no other information or documentation. Annette married Homer Govenor Bishop & had at least 9 children. Amos married Cordelia Bennett & had James Hooker, I have not linked them to our branch of the Andrews family yet who are from Danville but I'm sure they link in due to the name "Albert Pope". Mismicki, who posts regularly on this board is an expert on the Popes and Andrews.

Re: ANDREWS in Dudswell - 1800s
Thanks for your reply. There is no John in that particular family that I'm aware of, just the seven others. Albert Pope Saunders was named for an Albert Pope that was a family friend and part of some well to do family there, I think lumbermen. Neus, father of Lydia, had sisters that married Bishop brothers Napthali and John.

Re: ANDREWS in Dudswell - 1800s
Just out of curiosity, do you have any information on the birth dates or years for the children of Lydia and William? Also, do you happen to know William's middle name?
|
Re: ANDREWS in Dudswell - 1800s
I suspect William's middle name was Llewellyn, but I am not certain. I have one document that indicates his middle initial was L, and the only "L" name down the line is Llewellyn, so it's a guess. He and Lydia had 7 kids: Cynthia Mary 1845-1907 Amos Walter 1847-1928 William Scott 1849-1924 Albert Pope 1851-1907 Annette Ellen 1853-1884 Anthony Howard 1855-1905 Clara Marilla 1859-1919
What is your connection?

Re: ANDREWS in Dudswell - 1800s
I'm not sure there is a connection. We hit a brick wall with my GGrandfather, John Saunders. We think his father's name was either George or Albert (which could be a middle name instead of a first). Was just trying to see if I could find a connection somewhere. GGfather was born in Nov. 1857 we believe in England (York state?) and passed away in Oct. 1920 in Ohio, but no other information can be found on him. Only his father's name is given on his death certificate and father's birth place of England. We also have information from 1920 census that John Immigrated in 1861.
