Re: ANDREWS in Dudswell - 1800s
Is Ester Andrews Bishop a member of this family? She was b. 15 Feb 1765 in Wallingford, CT and died 27 Mar 1853 in Dudswell. Her husband was John Bishop who died in Dudswell in 1801.
Did Ester remary after John died?
I am trying to find a Cynthia Bishop who was born in Canada in 1802. Thank you for any help, Lyle D. Bishop III

Re: ANDREWS in Dudswell - 1800s
Esther Andrews Bishop was a sister of my ancester Neus Andrews. She's listed as Esther Bishop in the 1853 Census in Quebec living with family. Though it mistakenly says they were all born in Ireland, it would appear from this that she did not remarry.
John Bishop had at least four brothers that I know of, but I've only looked at John and Napthali. I believe the othes were Elijah, Samuel, and Timothy.
What record does your Cynthia Bishop first show up in?
Who/where did she marry?
Assuming she married, what were the names of her kids and where were they born?
With enough detail, perhaps she can be found.

Re: ANDREWS in Dudswell - 1800s
I know that I'm grasping at a whim as all the trees I find say that John and Ester Bishop's last child Lucy was born in 1999. I just thought it was possible that Ester was with child when he died and that child never got listed.
Up until last year we never knew the maiden name of my 3rd GreatGrandmother Cynthia, a death cert was found where it said her maiden name was Bishop. She shows up in the 1850 US Census as born in Canada, in the 1880 US Census she says both her parents were born in Connecticut, she was born in Canada. We assume that her parents were UEL. She is listed as being born between 1797-1802 in Canada.
She married Duncan Grant b. 1788 (again we don't know his parents or where in Canada he was born) about 1816/17. Children who were born in Canada were James 1817, John 1821, Clarissa 1823, Freeman 1828 (my 2nd GreatGrandfather), Allen, Ira 1830, Rufus 1832, Erastus 1834, Emily 1836, Merilla/Marilla 1838 and William 1840. The family moved to the US, Pennsylvania, where Aaron 1843, Allison 1843 and David 1844 were born.
The 1850 US Census show Ira, William, Marilla, Allison and David living with them. Clarissa had married a Edward Pettit b. 1818 in England, they may have married in Canada then they were living in NY in 1843, then Ohio then in PA.
The only Family Bible known does not have any other info about parents or birthplace. There are quite a few of us who are related to these folks but we all have the same Brick Wall. Thanks, Lyle D. Bishop III
PS You have the same male names as I have found, there were also Rachel, Sarah, Ruby, Sally and Urania.

Re: ANDREWS in Dudswell - 1800s
I'm looking for information about the Andrews in Dudswell, as well. On my mother's side we are related to Lemuel "Moses" Andrews who was born in Wallingford, CT, to Nathan and Ruth and died in Dudswell. His son, Lyman died (married to Hannah Hitchcock/Hickox) in Dudswell in 1842. Lyman's son Zenas emigrated from Canada back to the states (Wisconsin and Michigan). Naphtali Bishop married Rebecca Andrews; their daughter Rebecca M Bishop married Roswell Main.

Re: ANDREWS in Dudswell - 1800s
I have all of these folks in my file. Your Moses Andrews married to Lydia Andrews, who would have been related as well. They had at least three kids, one of which was your Lyman that married first to Hannah Hitchcock and second to Amy Bishop. Zenas was the youngest kid by Hannah and has descendants in Michigan as well as in some western states, e.g., Washington, Oregon, California, perhaps even Alaska. Andrews, Bishop, Main, and some other families are intermarried in numerous ways, so most of these folks are cousins to me (and you) in more than one way. I'll send a message to you through the system so we can compare notes.
