Hi!

It was unclear to me whether or not the name Deveneau was definitely derived from Davignon.

Is there also a Deveneau/Davignon in your family tree?

No, I do not have any Deveneau/Davignon in my own family tree. This thread reflects my helping someone else about a year ago.
I am fairly certain that this is the death record for Frank Deveneau, who was the head of household in that 1880 Southampton, MA census to which you refer in your tree:
Frank Doraneau (Devaneau)
Massachusetts, Deaths, 1841-1915
birth: 1831 St. Marie, Canada
death: 26 June 1899 Southampton, Massachusetts
burial: W. Springfield
residence: 26 June 1899 Southampton
father: Abraham Devaneau
mother: Catherine Lafountain Superncent
See: https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/NWQP-SHM

There is a corresponding record in the Quebec Parish Records on Ancestry for Francois Xavier Davignon, born and baptized at Marieville, Rouville, Quebec on March 31,1834, son of Abraham Davignon and Catherine Lafontaine-dit-Surprenant.

The marriage of Abraham Davignon and Catherine Surprenant-dit-Lafontaine took place at St-Mathias, Rouville, on 26 Oct 1824. Abraham was the son of Charles Davignon and Genevieve Bertrand.

I'll have more information for you tomorrow.

One more thing. On your tree, you list Frank Devaneau as born in 1850.
But on the 1880 census of Southampton, MA, he is listed as 44 years old, which would give him a birth date of around 1836.
Frank Devane 44
Philanda R. Devane 42
Notice that his wife is listed as "Philanda" (She is listed as Philomen on the birth records of most of her children.)
I found a marriage record that might be that of your Frank and "Philanda", but it this is correct, the person recording the marriage really butchered their names.
September 7, 1868 Marriages registered in the town of Holyoke, MA
Groom: Frank Devane, 30, resident of Southampton, MA. Farmer, born in Canada; parents Abram and Catherin, first marriage.
Bride: Fasanda Pineu (?) 28, resident of Holyoke, born in Canada. Parents not listed.
Officiated by F. L. Lynch, Catholic Priest.

I've been reading your correspondence regarding Frank Devenau.

I happen to have a Francois-Xavier (Frank) Davignon/Deveneau b: March 31, 1834 St. Nom-de-Marie and St. Marie-de-Monnie, Marieville, Quebec
SOURCE: Quebec Catholic Parish Registers 1621-1967 (Droin Collection) Image 84 of 114. Parents: Abraham Davignon dit Beauregard/Deveneau and Marie-Catherine Suprenant dit Lafontaine.

d: June 26, 1899 Southhampton, MA.

Is this the same Frank that you have been corresponding about?

If so, then I now know his wife's name and when they got married.

BUT, if the person you're corresponding with (I think it was Cindy Fitch) is talking about Franklin Justin Deveneau/Devnew, he was born Dec 18, 1859 Southhampton, MA
SOURCE: MA Births 1841-1915 Film 004341207 Image 67 of 886. His parents were Abraham Davignon/Deveneau (son of Abraham & Catherine Suprenant) and Marie-Luce Delage dit Letourneau.

Franklin aka Frank married Emily Elizabeth (Reidy) Thibodeau May 15, 1880 Congregational Church, Southwick, Hampden, MA and they had 6 children.

Frank died May 19, 1925 in Granby, CT and buried May 21, 1925 Granby Street Cemetery, Granby, Hartford Co, CT.

Let me know if either of you need more information on this family. I have been able to go back to the 1600's with SOME information with each name.

Hope this was of some help to both of you and that it's the same family.

Marsha,
I also found that Charles & Genevieve Bertrand dit Lafontaine had a son named Pierre Desire Davignon b: March 23, 1800 that was married to Genevieve Cothard but I didn't have any vitals on either of them, their marriage info. or any children.

Would this be your line from Pierre????
Again, if so, would appreciate any info. you'd be willing to share.

It's the same line! Louis is buried in St. Matthew's Cemetery in Black Brook, NY (I have seen the graves) and he would be my great, great, great grandfather, his son Pierre is buried there (my great, great grandfather) and his son Eugene Sr. (my great grandfather who I remember and have family pictures of) and also my grandfather, Eugene Jr. My research has taken me back to Francois Beauregard dit D'Avignon and Madeline Maillot. Your last paragraph I have not seen before. Is that a first marriage for Francois Beauregard dit D'Avignon before he left France for Quebec?

Pierre's wife is buried in St. Matthew's cemetery as well and was named Portune or Portuna. I am not familiar with the other names of Bertrand dit Lafontaine or Cothard but who knows!
