Re: Looking for DEVENEAU families in Quebec
Hi again, Pierre and Portuna had (I believe) 6 children with my great grandfather, Eugene being the last. The others were Delina, Eliza, Jedson, Philip, and Silinda. I remember my Mother referring to "Uncle Phil" who would have been her grandfather's brother. He was blind but I don't know if he was born blind or something happened to him. They were close and he lived in Lake Placid, NY (not far from Black Brook) and I am certain he is buried there in St. Agnes cemetery

Re: Looking for DEVENEAU families in Quebec
I just realized that you were looking for Louis and Mary's children. Louis D'Avignon and Mary Stebbins (who came from Massachusetts) had 7 children. Charles, Helen, John, Louis, Mitchell, Moses, and Pierre, who was my great great grandfather. How are you connected in the family line? It's exciting!

Re: Looking for DEVENEAU families in Quebec
Francois Beauregard dit Davignon's first marriage was I believe Mat 16, 1677 in Rennes, Ille-et-Vilaine, haute-Bretagne, France to ENAULT GERVAISE.
Second marriage: Oct19, 1683 Saines, Ille-et-Vailes, bretagne, FR to MICHELLE JANNES.
Haven't found if they were divorced or if she died before he came to Quebec. phonelady

Re: Looking for DEVENEAU families in Quebec
You have Francois D'Avignon dit Beauregard's parents, I believe! I had not gone this far! I have Francois D'Avignon dit Beauregard as being born in 1690 in France and married to Madeline Maillot in Chambly, Quebec. He must be the son of Francois dit D'Avignon and his second wife Michelle Jannes (married 1683)! Thank you for the info! You have more access than I to Ancestry because I do not have a paid membership, but I am in 2 Quebec Genealogy groups on Facebook and have access to records through those groups. There are D'Avignons still in Chambly, QC

Re: Looking for DEVENEAU families in Quebec
Okay, now I see that you are related to Charles Davignon and his SECOND WIFE, Louise Lariviere.
My line is Charles' FIRST WIFE, Genevieve Bertrand dit Lafontaine. Of her 14 children with Charles, my relative is their 10th child, Abraham b: Oct 11, 1803 St. Mathias, Rouville, Quebec m: Marie-Catherine Suprenant dit Lafontaine oct 26, 1824 St. Mathias. They had 9 children of which Abram b: May 12, 1825 was born and married Marie-Lucie Delage dit Latourneau abt 1843. Can't find if they were married in Canada OR the USA. Per the 1870 Census in Chatham, Columbia, NY, the Census shows first child as Eliza b: 1849 NY. (It doesn't show relationship to Head of Household so I don't know if this is their first child or a niece living with them.) Abram & Lucie's 8th child, Serantha Lucy "Queeny" b: Sep 26, 1864 is my relation. she married James Delano Trombley July 3`1, 1880 Westfield, MA. They had 9 children. Their first child, Emma Lucy is my gr grandmother.
Thanks for the names of your Louis & Mary. If I need their vitals & spouses, I'll get back to you.

Re: Looking for DEVENEAU families in Quebec
Now that I know that your Pierre was the son of Louis & Mary Stebbens, I have put your Pierre's wife's name Portuna, but don't know her maiden name.
I don't have any vitals on this couple.

Re: Looking for DEVENEAU families in Quebec
Wow! I did not know he had a first wife! Very interesting! The best place to look for information on Peter and Portune/Portuna D'Avignon would probably be St. Matthew's Church in Black Brook, NY. They are buried there as well as his father and mother Louis D'Avignon and Mary Stebbins. The story that I have heard about Mary Stebbins is that she was kidnapped by Native Americans in Massachusetts and marched all the way to Quebec, so her family line would be in Massachusetts. Please keep me posted with information that you find so that I can continue to fill in my family tree and Thanks!
