I'm looking for records (birth, marriage, death) for family that lived in the Township of Ely in Shefford County, Quebec. I'm also wondering exactly where this would be located. I've tried locating on maps.google.com and have not been able to find this area.

The family I'm inquiring about would be the Isaac and Olive (Malboeuf) Casgrain family, and specifically their daughter Olive who married a George Mason Dexter from Eden, Vermont, USA. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Surnames: Casgrain Cassegrain Malboeuf Dexter
There is a St Elie d'Orford due west of city of Sherbrooke on highway 55/10. Ely would probably be the English version. Just south of this there is South Ely Baptist Cemetery.

After comparing information, I have found that this is a match, however the year of marriage for Olive and George would be incorrect. I have that they were already married in the 1861 Census and have already had their first child Frank. Could the year have been 1859??

In response to your question of Where is Ely: from the book "History of the Eastern Townships, province of Quebec, Dominion of Canada: civil and descriptive in three parts" Author Catherine Matilda Day
Publisher Printed by J. Lovell, 1869
Original from Oxford University
Digitized Sep 20, 2007
Length 475 pages
found on google books.

"Under the hand and seal of Sir Robert Shore Milnes governor &c a warrant was issued for the of a tract of land lying within the district of bounded north by Acton north east by Melbourne east by Brompton south by Stukely and west Roxton which after the usual preliminaries and into 296 lots was erected November 13th into a township named Ely....."

Now for my question. We have a Jewett Putney in our line...We know he came from Peacham Vermont and had property which he deeded to his daughter Judith in 1805...Records after are non-existant but we believe he removed to Ohio...Do you have any snippets of information that will help us track this individual..
