Hi,
Are you a Guernsey? or related to this family? For a while I kept contact with the Gurnseys...when aunt Vic was still alive but...

Victoria was AUNT VIC to all of us!

YOU ARE RIGHT IN HER FATHER AND MOTHER and first marriage to Renaldo Guilmette a franco-american who died 15 or 18 months later.
Telle me what is your connection to Victoria?

The mention of Benoit Marchessault is very interesting for me. I have a ship's log from 1941 giving the name Benoit Marchessault (cousin) of Waterloo, Quebec - this was listed as closest relative in Canada for lady called Mrs Frances Kennett born 1909 (born Mary Frances Olive GALLAGHER) whose mother was Catherine Quinn I think. I have been trying to find relatives of Frances Kennett. She was widowed in 1947 and it says her husband was to be buried in Granby Cemetery, Granby, Quebec. At the time of her marriage in 1940 (this document I have already seen) her parents were dead. Is Marchessault a common name in those parts?

corrections:
1- Shefford is still a county; the village of the same name is now a town called BROMONT.

2- Victoria is the daughter of Louis Victor Marchessault and Eugenie Pelletier, so are Anna,Alice,Hermine and brothers :Auguste, Luc, Benoit.
Her first mariage was to Raynaldo Guilmette in 1935,who died some years later. Victoria remarried many years later to Judge Guernsey widower, of Ohio, .
When he died, she came back to live in West Shefford, (now Bromont) to live with her brother Luc, whose wife Gertrude (Destroismaisons) had died in 1958. They had 3 children, Jacques, Victor( deceased), and Lucie.

Renaldo Guilmette was my granduncle. His brother, Louis, was my paternal grandfather.

I have some more information that I have dug up about the family, but most of it you could probably find yourself with sufficient googling. I have no information whatsoever that is specifically about Victoria. But free free to call me anytime if you think I can be of help. I'm in the book. Ronald Guilmette in Roseville, CA... that's "CA" as in California... NOT Canada. (I do know some stuff about Renaldo. He was apparently the Superintendent of the Central Optical Company in Southbridge, MA, you know, back in the day.)

I just found out from one of my cousins that the woman at the center of one old photo I have recently scanned was always called "Aunt Victoria" by everyone.

I am going to try attaching the photo to this message, but just in case that doesn't work, I am putting it also on my web server here:

http://www.tristatelogic.com/genealogy/aunt-victoria.jpg

The persons in this photo (left to right) are:

my mother, Elizabeth Guilmette
my paternal grandmother, Helena Guilmette
my paternal grandfather, Louis M. Guilmette
"Aunt Victoria" Victoria Guilmette (wife of my grand-uncle, Renaldo)
unknown
my maternal grandmother

This picture was taken in front of my grandparents home in Los Altos, California. (I recognize the exact location.) Based on the age of my mother in this photo, I would estimate that this picture was taken sometime in the late 1940s.

Oops! Just one other little tidbit that was dropped by my cousin: According to my cousin, this fellow Guernsey, who Victoria apparently married after her first husband, my granduncle Renaldo died was actually the Mayor of the town of Lima, Ohio at some point in time.

I just thought that I should share that too.

I had started this thread quite a while ago and somehow never saw the return posts after the first little bit. Just to continue the loop, Victoria married Charles Guernsey (my grandfather) from Lima, Ohio, who was a Judge of the Ohio 3rd District Court of Appeals. I was always told they met on a cruise he took, but I'm not sure of the details. She moved to Ohio with him, but he died within the first year. I believe Victoria stayed in Ohio for several years before moving back to Canada. During her time in Ohio she came to help my mom for a time just after my brother was born. The family story was that my dad was so grateful he kept making her plates of fudge.

Me too. I missed later threads. Good story about the fudge! I am trying to work out who the parents are of the Catherine Quinn who married Benoit Marchessault in 1935. I have a Catherine Quinn (died 1940) who was married to Thomas James Gallagher (bur 1939 Notre Dame, Granby) and I would also like to know who her parents are. Have not been on the line for about four years so very rusty!
