Thanks, this is what I am thinking also. The part about Elizabeth Allard Berry having the middle name of Mary adds in to this becuase my gg grandmother is Mary Bethany. I don't have dates on my family yet to prove it absolutely for the very serious searcher. But having a place to search for these dates is a major breakthrough for me. Thank you so much. Is your tree on line so I can get the whole picture? Do you want any information from me? Thanks again Mary Foster

Hello Mary, Thank you ever so much, I never would of made the Bethany Allard / Anthony Cutler connection without your information! I don't have anything online yet but have all this data on my computer and much paperwork also :-)
Actually, I too am related to Bethany Allard & James Berry Sr. through their daughter Sarah Berry who married Peter Hayes...and so on!! Anyway, any information on the first settlers of Shefford (the associates), their family and stories would be of great help. I have much information but need so much more to complete my project.
Thanks again and it was my pleaser to help you out!
Kind Regards, Roch Graves Royer

I was looking at trees last night at this website. I noticed that Bethany Allard and James Berry had a daughter, Hannah who married Robert Thompson. Since we did such a good job of connecting the Allard, Cutlers and Berrys, I am wondering if the Thompsons are also intertwined with the family. My Priscilla Cuttler daughter of Bethany Allard and Anthony Cuttler married Alonzo Thompson. The line for Priscilla goes: Parents Bethany Allard and Anthony Cutler Elizabeth Berry and John Allard Have you seen Thompsons interspersed in these lines besides Hannah and Priscilla? I am so glad we were able to help each other. I hope we can continue to help each other. My tree is not on line either but I would be glad to share it with you by snail mail or disc if you like. Could you do that for me also? I do not have the Shefford information either. Perhaps someone else on line does who can help us. Thank you again. Mary Foster

You're raising another great mistery...let me check and see what I can come up with and I'll get back to you shortly :-)

Re: Berry Allard Cuttler Thompson
Hi Did you find the information on Orrin Sylvester Thompson and his wife listed with the Allard or Cutler family? Here is the info I have on them all.
The first census records I have of Priscillar Cutler who married Alonzo Thompson is 1870 alone with her children in Independence, Buchanan County, Iowa. The last census record I have on her is 1900 in Cedar Falls, Blackhawk County, Iowa. It lists Priscilla's birthdate as March 1821 in Lower Canada. In this census she states her father was born in MA and her mother in NH. This would be Anthony Cutler and Bethany Allard.
In the 1880 census, Alonzo and Priscilla's son said his father was born in VT and mother in Canada.
Children of Alonzo Thompson and Priscilla Cuttler: 1. John Lorin Thompson born Dec 26, 1842 in Canada died Mar 8, 1927 in Madison, NE wife Caroline Milburn born Marah 15, 1856 in New Brunswick married New Hartford, Iowa, Feb 14, 1873 died Feb 7, 1927 Madison, NE 2. Orrin Sylvester Thompson went by O.S. born abt 1847 in Canada died April 22, 1922 in Pocahontas, Iowa married Elizabeth E. Wilburn Smith March 11, 1874 Butler County, Iowa. Elizabeth had been married previously to James R. Smith. He was lost at sea. They had three children together, a son who was given away after James death, a daughter Sara Lois Smith born abt 1866 and James R. Smith abt 1868 Elizabeth and Orrin had a daughter Bertha E. Thompson born 1875 died 1954 in Shelby, MT married Mr. Mick
3. Mary Bethany Thompson born Sep 25, 1851 in Canada. Came to U.S. with family at the age of three years old died Dec 28, 1934 in Fonda, Pocahontas County, Iowa married Harvey Eaton May 18, 1870 in Independence, Iowa had 12 children
4. Elmer Thompson born Mar 17, 1856 in Illinois died Dec 17, 1930 in Cedar Falls, Blackhawk County, IA married Rebecca Ann Ford born Aug 25, 1865 in Blackhawk County, Iowa Died Apri 10, 1932 Cedar Falls, Ia the marriage date is Jan 24, 1882
5. Lemuel Thompson born 1861 in Illinois died May 20, 1877 Shell Rock, Blackhawk County, IA due to drowning.
Does any of this help? I would really like to know if this family appears in an 1860 census in Ogle, Il or Stephenson, Il. I think that Alonzo must have died in Illinois and since I cannot find any death information on Priscilla in Iowa, (Iowa is missing the years 1903 to 1906 Blackhawk County) and cannot find any burial information on her that she may be buried with her husband. Or Alonzo died after they came to Iowa between 1861 and 1870. They were not in Independence, IA in the 1860 census. If this is too time consuming for you, let me know. Thanks. I appreciate your help and interest. Mary

Re: Berry Allard Cuttler Thompson
Hi Mary,
In the 1880 census for Dover, Pocahontas, Iowa, it states that 32 years old Orrin S. Thompson is a farmer and is married to Betsey E. Thompson. Elizabeth is often called Betsey so she is definetly Elizabeth E. Wilburn. Orrin states that his father was born in NH (Alonzo) and didn't know his mother's birthplace (Precsilla). Elizabeth E. states that her father is born in England and her mother in Nova Scotia (the province next to New Brunswick). Children listed are: Sarah L. Thompson age: 14 at school James R. Thompson age: 12 herding cattle Bertha E. Thompson age:5 ========================================= In the 1880 census for Union, Black Hawk, Iowa states that 59 years old Presilla Thompson (spelled that way) is a widow. She also states that her father and mother were born in New Hampshire (Anthony & Bethany). Elmer Thompson age:24 laborer, is the only one living with his mother. He states that Prescilla was born in Canada and Alonzo was born in New Hampshire.
Will keep searching and keep you posted if I find anything else!!

Re: Berry Allard Cuttler Thompson
Hi, Sorry it took me so long to reply, I have been out of state for the holidays. Hannah Berry's mother, Bethany Allard is not the same Bethany Allard who married Anthony Cuttler. The Cutlers, Allards and Berrys seem to have used the same names numerous times, thus the difficulty in determining who is who. James Berry and wife Behtany Allard born Jun 22, 1739 had a daughter Hannah but also a daughter Elizabeth Mary Berry born Oct 1, 1779. Elizabeth Mary Berry married Johnathan Allard II and had a daughter Bethany Allard born c 1800 who married Anthony Cuttler or Cutler, Jr. I am stuck on Alonzo Thompson. But when I saw Robert Thompson had married into this family, I wondered if there is a connection. I am not familiar with the Thompsons you mention. There is a tree on line for John Thompson died Dec 28, 1780 and married a Mary. Their line is full of Orrin, Alonzo, John, Sylvestor, and Mary; as is my line. My Alonzo Thompson was born about 1820 or before. He married Priscilla Cutler born 1821 in (I am assuming) Quebec. John Lorin, Orrin Sylvester, and Mary Bethany were all born in Canada. Emil and Lemuel were born in Illinois. I found Alonzo in Canada Census 1851 and found his wife Priscilla as a widow in the 1860 Ogle County, Illinois census. Her last child was born in 1861 so I believe Alonzo died in 1860 before the census in June. I also found Illinois land records to Alonzo Thompson in 1854. I believe Alonzo was born in Vermont or near there then they moved to Quebec and then to Illinois in 1853. Then the wido and family came to Iowa in 1870. Any lists of children you have may be helpful. I know the Allards and Cutlers and Berrys traveled this same path. So I wonder if my Alonzo Thompson fits into the Thompsons related to these three families. Thanks
