Hi Scott,

I might be wrong, but I think that at some point in time DeLair, was actually "Dallaire".

Joseph Antoine probably changed his last name to "Delair" when he got to New-York.

Many Dallaires ancestry are found in the Chicoutimi area, so if you want, you can first try your luck with the "Societe de genealogie du Saguenay" at

http://www.cybernaute.com/sgs/

The web site is in French, but if you send them an email (it can be in English) re Joseph Antoine Delair with wife Marion Lucy Boivin, chances are that they can help you.

Best of luck,

Esther

My grandmother's maiden name was Delair. In looking through my family records, there is an Antoine (or Anthony) who was born in 1852 in French Canada. His parents names were Peter and Margaret. He was from a family of 12 children. My relative would be a brother named John (Jean Baptiste). Does this help?

The family I am referring to had 12 children. This information came from the Hammond Census of 1870 and other information I have collected. Anthony (or Antoine) was 18 at that time. He had 2 older sisters named Margaret (same as mother's name) and Elenora. The older brother was Peter. The children younger than Anthony were:
Joseph, John, Solomon, Edward, William, Charles F., Mary, and Andrew. Their father's name was Peter Delair. He and his wife immigrated to Hammond NY in 1868. Hope this helps.

I'm sorry. I do not know any of his children's names. The only information I have is that he was born in 1852 in Canada and the father and mother's names. I don't know if I mentioned that his mother's maiden name was Cousineau. They married in 1844 in French Canada. My line is from John and those are the only children names that I have.

Hello Diana
Do you have a Maria or Anna Maria Delair in your records.
She was born between 1801 and 1810 in Cayuga Ontario.
She is a descendant of John Delair.
Any help will be appreciated.
