I am looking for information on Charles Lawrence Mowatt and his family. He was born around 1834, most likely in Saguenay, Canada. His father may be Hugh or George. By 1860's he was in the US Navy, in 1863 married Alice Charnock/Charnack in Portsmouth, NH. They had 3 children in Jackson, Illinois: Lilla Mowatt b. 1874-1876, (m. George Perry Davis of Carlisle); May/Mae N. Mowatt, b. 1870; Robert/Rubart? who later resided in Pueblo, CO and was the Chief Engineer of the Electric Car Co. After returning from Illinois, Charles & Alice lived in Massachusetts.

Thank you for looking. I keep running across this Charles and one in Chicago, but they are not the right one because the USA military records show that on 12/15/1851:
"Respectfully returned to the Commissioner of Pensions. Chas. Mowatt, enlisted on the “Jamestown” as Land. Dec.15/51 and served to Oct. 25/53, when he was discharged.” Treasury Dept Auditor for the Navy Department, dated Nov. 18, 1896. Chas. Mowatt, #19,592. footnote.com/image/29009546
It is so amazing that I have found so much information about him from 1851 on, but nothing before then, although there is one legend that he joined and then deserted the French navy at a very young age. Charles Lawrence Mowatt's father may have been Hubert or Robert, and possibly a sister Maria who died young.
